| Re: Squids don't just ride Sport-Bikes Definitely squids, railen' like that on a big bike. Hence the reason I almost nailed a bagger one day out here. Dude was going way to fast for the bike and obviously his skill level and crossed the DY. |

| Re: Squids don't just ride Sport-Bikes I would also suggest some trackdays if he wants to get more comfy with the bike at speed.

| Re: Squids don't just ride Sport-Bikes Finally! I now know when to change tires. When the bike wobbles at ungodly speeds on fast downhill mountain roads. [smacks forehead] I don't have to inspect them anymore. |

| Re: Squids don't just ride Sport-Bikes Don't forget Mike, if you aren't getting enough traction or your bike seems a bit tight-strung, just put more air in the tires

| Re: Squids don't just ride Sport-Bikes This may sound kind of weird, but I think the world was a better place when sportbikes were the first choice as a personal fashion accessory. Dudes would go get their gixxer/matching helmet+tanktop on and loop it/drop it on day 3, pick asphalt or worse out of their dermis - and chant "motorcycles are dangerous" for the balance of their time on earth.
It seems as the "chopper" surge in interest grows, that more first time riders are getting on them cause they're 'real motorcycles', or even re-entries from the script played out above that are a little more daring now. But now it's a little different, because riders can live longer on a chopper. Idiots will be idiots and I'm sure that follows all sports...but you have a much wider (perceived) margin of error with a chopper . Of course this assumes you can pass the first skill test of keeping it upright when you're not moving. But since that is quickly becoming the prince albert piercing of choice for so many riders old and new - there is no encouragement to haul ass around...in fact just the opposite from my own observation. Around here, Crankshaft himself would be shaking his fists at these riding processions drawling around my favorite backroads.
But anyways, these people all get so used to riding around not doing anything - that they can get a year or two under their belts easily. Then they get the brass set in the mail over the winter, and they own the road. Except - they've never actually seen the limits of, or are remotely farmiliar with how their portly steed negotiates anything outside of 10 degrees from true north.
I actually give the guy credit for asking "what am I doing wrong" , but the advice most of the people there offered should have jami69.. in a fit. A plastic bike going down isn't a great experience, but you're on the bike - and probably won't be when it goes down. But a nearly 1000# solid steel monster with you 'in' it is not a ride you're likely to get out of for even the smallest event...I'd imagine you could probably be fairly hosed should you get stuck under any part of it too...dang.
Either way, people will own, like, and ride their choice of bikes - and thats the name of the game to ride your own ride and do what you like. But I don't see one being safer then the other, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
...Unfortunately I had an intelligent debate with a hog owner about this recently so I'm still riled up, specially once I saw that thread .
And as far as choppers/cruisers/whatever go - there really isn't any motorcycle I wouldn't like to own for some reason or another. It's more then mentality that seems to be associated with them now that erks me.
Am I off base?
Uhh, guess I'll give you your thread back now, please drive through

| Re: Squids don't just ride Sport-Bikes Oh and I only use the term "chopper" because its like those cool kids that bought a VFR as a stuntbike then realized it was a sport tourer - so they still call it a rice rocket ...same can be akin to any cruiser made today, so I think it's kind of funny to hear people talking about their choppers and then you walk outside to see a warrior or the like.
Funnier yet is the origin of choppers and what they were, compared to what they are now..both parts wise and rider-wise, are 100% opposite

Some days it just feels great to be out on a mellow 45mph ride through the country. |
