Microfiche at RonAyers.com

What is the secret to using the microfiche at ronayers.com? I recently called them to get help identifying the part numbers I want to order (and got friendly, knowledgeable help), but it seems I should be able use the fiche and figure it out myself. Two problems:

1. There are two part numbers listed for the same diagram number. Example: look up a stator (alternator) cover for a '01 929. There are two Honda part numbers listed...which one?

2. There are two separate fiche images for a group of parts. Example: a clutch lever perch for a '01 929...there is a group called "Cable-Switch 1" and another called "Cable-Switch 2". Sometimes there are multiple part numbers in each of these (problem 1) too.

There must be something simple that I'm missing? Maybe one of you brainiacs can point me in the right direction...

Most of the time, the different part numbers are because of emmssions (i.e. Cal.) or because of color. If you go to the trunk and get every number from every catagory on every lable, you will have all of the information you need. Of course you'll have to find the info page on the microfische to decipher (sp?) it. Or you can call their friendly sales staff.

Yeah, some of the part numbers are messed up. They show that a stator from a 98-99 will work on older models as they are listed in the older model's microfiche along with the correct numbers for that year. I can tell you from first hand knowledge that a stator from a 98-99 will not fit older models.

I usually get the part numbers from Ron Ayers and then run them by the guys at http://zanottimotor.com. They can confirm that it is the right part number and their prices and shipping are usually much better than anyone else.
