| Don't let insurance screw you So after trying a bunch and finally getting the insurance lady on the phone the other day they gave me a quote of around $5700 then they take off sales tax which doesn't make sense because I paid sales tax already when I bought the bike so why do I have to pay it again? then minus the $500 dectible. and I assume their gonna pay off my loan after that. So I asked if that was for a regular 929 or an Erion Edition. Of course she had no clue. So I had to get stuff (got a copy of the NADA book) and faxed that to her. I got a message from her today saying they confirmed it was an Erion Edition and they're gonna give me the NADA average retail value, $6690. So I'm pretty happy with that.
So remember don't let the insurance company screw you. If you total a bike or car fight them on the price, you should be able to get a couple hundred bucks more.

They would to you. Trust me I know. |

| Re: Don't let insurance screw you My Insurance story... Not at all related to your experience, glad you got your due.
I owned an 83 corolla given to me in 93 by my mother as a high school gift. Perfect car low mile etc, I went out and played hockey with my friends one night, got hit on the way home by a drunk driver (he was arrested on site). The car wasn't worth much at the time, the insurance company said they had to total the car and if we wanted it back we had to buy it. Ummm wrong, YOU own the car work from that stance, my Dad owned a body shop and I went to him and 2 other (his friends) shops and got estimates. They ended up paying me the whole value of the car and I kept the car.
Not related to your story but I just don't understand when people say the vehicle was totaled the insurance company owns it, they don't if you have the title you own the car, bottom line.
We pulled the major bends and sprayed primer on it to keep it from rusting. What happened? About a year later I got hit again by another drunk driver, I wasn't hurt but when they came to look at the car I tried to tell them it wasn't really fixed after the last accident but they wouldn't hear it, gave me full value again... |

A friend thought of this though: Its kind of like they are buying the bike from me so they have to pay sales tax but since they are a company in the business of screwing you they pass on the tax to you.
In any case you could say I technically didn't own the bike anyway. Still had a lien on it.
I talked to the insurance lady earlier and after sales tax and the $500 deductible I'm getting $6252.50. Now they are sending paperwork for the lien to be payed off (around $2400). So I'll make out with a decent chunk of change (which I'm gonna pay off my credit cards with then have about $1300 or so start saving with). They wanted $923 for me to buy the bike back, I passed.
