| Vroom Vroom I've been riding for quite a while, but I've never thought to ask the question I'm about to. I guess I've been ashamed. That would account me to being a Know-It-All that doesn't like to be wrong.
OK - here goes
What would you say the optimum RPM range is while riding? When you cruise around what does your tac read?
I ride a 918cc 900RR if you must know, but I'm not sure that matters much for what I'm asking.
In fact, I'm thinking that there's more to the answer than just the RPM level.
OK, I had better quit now. I'm beginning to sound like a newbie, sqiud.
.......................and it's really scaring me. |

| Re: Vroom Vroom Depends on where I'm riding and such. In the city and on the highway I try to keep it in the 4-5k range. Back roads it's usually 5-6k-ish. |

| Re: Vroom Vroom I like to ride in a rev range that allows me to make the best use of the throttle for both accelerating and engine braking. It varies depending on the bike ( and the speed and the gear..)
The idea is that I don't want to have to waste time shifting down to get the **** out of the way of danger, similarly, I don't want to have to go for the brakes every time someone slows. |

| Re: Vroom Vroom I cruise on my thou at 4-5K RPM. In the twisties I keep it a gear or 2 lower and run aroun 7-8K. |

I'm usually around 5k or so for general, relaxed riding. |

| Re: Vroom Vroom I would have said 17,500 as well, but my luck someone would have taken me serious.
I too normally see my tach sitting at or around the 4 to 5 range. I have always assumed this to be the norm, but I had to ask.
Speaking of the 17,500 RPM range for the 6, has anyone heard how the buy-back is going becuse of the false advertising? |

| Re: Vroom Vroom Each bike is different...but low enough to avoid having the engine constantly buzzing...and high enough to avoid lugging the engine. I am assuming you are talking about street riding. |

| Re: Vroom Vroom Street Riding is correct. The only time I hit the track is at the drag strip, and for that the engine's normal RPM is somewhere just north of 10,500 right as I shift.
It amazes me that an engine has the ability to survive the kind of abuse we put them through. |
