I was parusing another forum today and found this stickied thread there. Police are looking to motorcycle forums and others to help find a person who entered a SC motorcycle shop and killed 4 people. There is a dectective on the case who is aking us in the M/C community if we know anyone/anything that might help them out. As long as Conq does not mind, I am posting a link to the thread from Sportbikes.net. | Re: Please help local authorites find murderer.. [qFor those who didn't read about these horrific murders when they happened, here's an article from the Spartanburg Herald-Journal in November 2004, one year later, that conveys the nature of the crime and its effect on the families and community: Hunt intensifies
By JASON SPENCER | Staff Writer
November 07, 2004
CHESNEE -- When Terry Guy watched his wife's face light up last year, he didn't have to ask what the good news was. He could look at her and tell.
Beverly was glowing. She was going to be a grandmother. She had wanted to be one for so long.
It was October 2003. Beverly Guy's son, 30-year-old Scott Ponder, and his wife, Melissa, had called from Arizona. Melissa was pregnant with their first child.
Scott and Melissa Ponder had been married just about two years. The couple shared an acute interest in motorcycles, and for Scott, it was a passion. He built Superbike Motorsports from the ground up.
A longtime friend, Brian Lucas, helped manage the shop on Parris Bridge Road. Beverly Guy worked there keeping the books. And Chris Sherbert, a mechanic, kept everything fine-tuned.
All four were shot to death on Nov. 6, 2003.
Scott Ponder never had a chance to meet his son, Scott Dean Ponder Jr. He was killed about two weeks after finding out he would be a dad. "Scotty," as Melissa calls the child, will be 5 months old Wednesday.
"I'll forever treasure the day that he went in and saw the heartbeat at the doctor's office," Melissa Ponder said between tears on Saturday, the one-year anniversary of Chesnee's quadruple homicide. "He knows his baby. He knows he's grumpy in the morning, and when he's fussy."
The case remains unsolved.
Investigators believe the key to solving the crime lies in three vehicles that witnesses say were at the motorcycle shop that day: a mid-1990s Chevrolet or GMC Z71, midnight blue with chrome bed rails, chrome dual exhaust and 45-day state-issued temporary tags; an unknown model small light-blue pickup, a sporty ride with louvers covering the back cab windows; and a red, early '90s four-door passenger car with a trunk, possibly a Honda Civic.
The looks could have changed. But authorities hope the images will jog memories.
"This has got to be somebody's neighbor. Somebody's fellow employee," said Detective Allan Wood, the lead investigator on the case. "Here it is a year later, so certainly things can change. Think back: Who had issues? Or who did business with the shop? Or who had motorcycles back then who could have done this?" Getting the word out
More than 80 Spartanburg County sheriff's officers gathered across from the bike shop Saturday. They spent the morning handing out revised information fliers to area businesses; the afternoon, going door-to-door in the 1½-mile radius around Superbike Motorsports.
Warrant officers Beverly Johnson and Anita Mullinax covered two main thoroughfares on the west side of Spartanburg, for instance.
"We've got tons of leads," Mullinax said. "Just not the right one."
In the end, officers distributed about 10,000 fliers and 5,000 posters. A version of the information appears in an advertisement on Page C3 of today's Herald-Journal. About 65,000 copies will be stuffed into newspapers Tuesday.
Posters have been mailed to every law enforcement agency in the Carolinas, as well as every motorcycle shop.
"That's the thing, to keep it in people's minds," Wood said. "That's hard to do sometimes."
A former FBI agent has said he believed the attacker was a disgruntled customer who knew the shop, viewed the killings as a "mission," and probably stayed in the area.
John Douglas, a nationally known criminal profiler, also said last week that where the bodies fell last year offers clues about their killer.
Ponder was found in the parking lot. Lucas, 29, was in the doorway. Guy was just outside the bathroom and Sherbert was in the middle of the showroom. Douglas believes the killer acted alone, trained beforehand, and shot Ponder and Lucas several times to release pent-up anger. Douglas ruled out drugs or robbery as a motive.
Local investigators on Saturday would not confirm the lone gunman theory, but did say the attacker or attackers knew their victims beforehand.
Investigators are desperate to find any bit of information that will lead them to the killer. After talking with Douglas, a sheriff's deputy called the Herald-Journal to ask whether the newspaper could track who had viewed stories about the murders on its Web page.
"There's frustration, certainly, related to a task you seemingly can't complete," Wood said. "It's just a matter of sticking to it." A long way from Chesnee
Safford, Ariz., is a small desert town northeast of Tucson. The city proper is about the size of Union, but it's set against the backdrop of scattered red mountains and signature Southwestern brush.
It's where Scott and Melissa were when they called home with the news of a baby on the way. They had been visiting Melissa's family, but couldn't wait to make an announcement here in person.
"I remember thinking, 'Scott's got everything. He's got his business, his wife, and a baby on the way,' " said Jason Ramantanin, of Albemarle, N.C., and a friend of the Superbike crew for many years. "I think Scott was never happier."
Ramantanin emceed a brief memorial service for last year's four victims. About 75 people showed up for an emotional trip back in time. After lunch, he led a crew of motorcyclers on a near-80 mile trek through Saluda, N.C., in honor of their friends.
Ramantanin on several occasions reminded everyone how hard Saturday was. Melissa Ponder said she originally wanted the day to come and go, with no looking back. But that wouldn't be fair to Scott, she said.
"You know, it feels like a dream," Ramantanin said. "I'm hoping it is. I'm hoping somebody will wake me up."
Memory books, one for each of the four who died, were set on a table for anyone to sign. They were filled with well wishes, prayers and an occasional bout of reminiscing. One couple, for instance, recounted a "bad Christmas" with Lucas where presents were opened early to accommodate a flight schedule. But someone got sick, and quick trips were made to a nearby Dollar Store to celebrate "all over again."
"We miss you, and remember you with love and kindness," wrote Christina and David Graham.
Media outlets across the Upstate were invited to Saturday's event. Every bit of publicity can bring in information, investigators said. Melissa Ponder is optimistic that her husband's killer will be caught.
A family member for each victim stood briefly to eulogize his or her lost one during the memorial service.
"If I could die tomorrow for all four of them, I'd do it," Terry Guy said. "Beverly knows that I tell her every night that I miss her, and I love her. She wants me to continue my life, but I'll always be waiting for the day I see her again." Best of luck to you in solving this case, Detective Lachica. http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/ima...er_offline.gif http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/ima...ons/report.gif http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/ima...tons/quote.gif http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/ima...quickreply.gif

All 4 were taken down, no one was left. I never heard of any "rumors" about any of them being followed or watch. There was talk of disgruntled customers in the early stages.
The location of the shop would make it difficult for loitering of just hanging out. Again, it is possible, but with all of the taken out, no one to talk to.
The detecive's have all the evidence concerning notes or comments made at the business before the shootings, and have all the computers etc...
Satelilte photos were investigated. I made many attempts myself. I found that no pictures were taken at the times needed.
I totally agree that someone knows something that have not brought forward yet. I am sure people hear things they assume the officials know. They need to come forward with any info. It wll take one piece of info or a lead to open this up.
Again, thank you for sharing you thoughts, please don't let this die. It is now Mother's Day. Make sure you all take the time to tell the ones you care about , that you love them. We never know what the next minute will bring.

IK,
Thank you for all your thoughts and ideas. I cannot speak to the detail of the investigation. I can say that the Sheriff at that time closed the investigation down and would not allow all agencies to help. I won't go into specifics, but I feel we lost 18 months. The new Sheriff has opened all avenues and has been open to any and all help. He has assigned a special task for high profile cases like ours. Like I said, the case is far from cold and we need to keep the discussions going.
Again, thank you for your thoughts.
best regards,
TFL

| Re: Please help local authorites find murderer.. We need folks talking......
Hey all,
With the airing of this case nationally does not, by any means mean that we have accomplished our goal. This is merely a step in the right direction. We are very greatful to everyone who helped get this national but we want you all to know why we need this attention.
Superbike Motorsports located in Chesnee, SC (Spartanburg County) sold a lot of motorcycles over the internet via cycletrader. These bikes were sold all over this country.
A top profiler stated that with the lack of an obvious motive and the manner in which these people were MURDERED, that he believes this terrible crime to possibly be directed at the shop.
That being stated, bikes being sold all over this country, anyone of us COULD know or know of the person (s) responsible for these murders.
Please everyone, keep talking about it. KEEP TALKING ABOUT THIS CRIME until we bring the victims justice. If you know someone who did business with this shop and the deal did not go very smoothly, think about it.......
Please do not approach this person (s) on your own, let me do that! (You can remain annonymous if you wish) in fact I do not reveal my sources unless ordered by a judge but....if you never tell me your name, I can't tell anyone who you are.
There is a $125,000 reward offered in this case.
Thank you all again for your constant display of maturity on this thread!

| Re: Please help local authorites find murderer.. WHO were they competing with? WHO bought a bike and subsequently crashed and either died or got severly paralyzed, and has parents/friends/relatives that might take revenge to this? I still get the feeling that someone or some people back in town (or at least in state) know something and aren't talking. What about criminals that they (the victims) possibly knew, and didn't join forces with, or double-crossed, or were about to turn in??
Yeah, probably everybody on this board would like to see these scum get caught, of course with the exception of those involved and/or connected with the multiple hit!
Thanks for all the good work on the case detective, please continue, and do persist and find them. http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/ima...er_offline.gif http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/ima...ons/report.gif |

| Re: Please help local authorites find murderer.. All good questions.
This case is continuing to be worked very, very hard. I am the father of Brian who was Scott Ponders mechanic. My wife and I relocated back to the area last year. We continue to use every resourse we can find to keep this in the news. We will never, never, never stop working on this case. We are starting to get national attention. The superbike case will be on the Geraldo at Large show on Fox. Please go to the website and check to see when you can view it. This case has so many complexities, it is hard to imagine but we need more national attention due to the internet sales.
I am asking all of you to send Geraldo and Joe Mamanna an email to express your thanks for their help. Ask them to do more. Please, as the father with a major hole in my heart, please respond and send this note around.
You can also visit Fox 21 and hear the 911 call made by Noel Lee. The friend who found them on that day on Nov 6th 2003. This was just released last week.
You are correct. I feel the same way as I "know" those close to this case or business know a lot more then they are telling. As I said, we will never stop this crusade. We must have answers. What are they scared of ???
All of you cannot imagine the respect and admiration we have for you and your continued interest in this case. I hope you never have to go through something like this, I wish this pain on no one.
My wife and I are also very involved in the Spartanburg SC, Crime Stoppers. We are on the board and are trying raise fund to help make the organization more effective.
As I said before, Brian left to young boys, our grandsons, who we continue to battle to see through the court system. Please pray for us and God bless all of you. You are great.
Detective L and the team continue to work their butts off on this case. We`are so lucky to have the support of this law enforcement Team doing what they do best.
Again.
God belss all of you.

| Re: Please help local authorites find murderer.. I dont like this.
With all those potential witnesses, i wonder if the evident lack of training (mainly self control, its a rule not to waste bullets) is an illusion. A well trained individual (even self trained) could possibly create this. Problems lying therin would be a suppressed weapon of some kind, keeping cool, and the obvious get away (hardest part). If this was not a trained person, how come not one citizens(like you guys here on sbn) called in?
Another thing is that if someone is losing control or doing something suspicious, USE UR CAMERA PHONE!!!!!! We now have the ability to provide photos to police and authorities, and we should take advantage of that fact.A single snapshot could have changed this whole turnout.
Thats all that i could come up with, but i cant sit by and watch when ppl like this are alive and able to pass thier genes on to other future murderers.
My deepest sympathies go out to the family, and im relly proud of the sbn community for all of the support givin to this. |

| Re: Please help local authorites find murderer.. Your comments are very, very sound. This was a direct, intentional hit. For what reason we don't know.
Remember the discussions about Dean Ponder? He has been missing for 13 years. He supposedly went state evidence and came up missing after getting out of prison. I guess he was a very bad individual. Could this be related to the Superbike murders?. The father, mother and son all executed !!!!! Seems odd, doesn't it.
FYI, due to our continued involvement, Joe Mammana has agreed to offer $2m
for 20 days to encourage finding 20 missing people around the country.($100,000 each.
Dean Ponder is one of them. Please spread the word and help us bring these criminals to justice.
Thanks for all the prayers, you guys are great.
We still need national attention. Also, don't forget the prisons. If you know someone inside to spread the word that would be great.
Bottom line ....we have $125,000 reward for superbike and $100,000 for the remains of Dean Ponder. This must be cleared up. Please keep pressing.
We will never give up....... |
