My bike got blown over by a helicopter...

No kidding...

I came out of work this afternoon to find a hospital cop standing by my bike which was standing upright but with the bike cover partially pulled up. Not a good sign. As I got closer, I saw my bar end sitting on the ground and the cover was scuffed up.

Turns out, that one of our helicopters was taking off and backed over the motorcycle pad and blew a POS scooter into my bike and knoecked it over. This was witnessed by a whole crew of cement workers that were laying cement around the bike parking pad. They got some physical plant guys to help lift it up off the ground.

He says the hospital risk management will get in touch with me and he was filing a report as well.

*Sigh*

Damage appears to be all cosmetic except the throttle return is screwed up. Likely a bent bar. I'll probably report this to my insurance as well just to cover my bases.

Bummer. It's a bad feeling to come outside and find your bike on the deck.

But sorry, I couldn't help but chuckle. Pretty wild story.

Yeah... unfortunately, I know a few of those folks over at risk management...

I think they'll be cool with it. I hope.

One of my mechanics had an EX500 blown across the road once by LifeFlight. He stopped at an MVA and when the helo took off with patient in tow, the baby Ninja went for a ride of its own.

Re: My bike got blown over by a helicopter...

They used to land "pedro" the Chinook copter the marines have to fly up patients from their base at this helicopter pad. One day when taking off, it flew over the employee parking lot, which on that side of the hospital is gravel. The gravel became projectiles and destroyed many windshields... Then they made it start landing at the nearby airport. Now it can land on the rood...

Dude that sucks. tell them to find that chopper pilot and check his license and insurance.... Hope they pay for it and you don't have to file a claim with your insurance.

Re: My bike got blown over by a helicopter...

Yeah, we'll see... The hospital generally does the right thing. And there is the precedent I mentioned above... The hospital paid to fix all the damage.

I rode the bike home and it is fine... except for the throttle. But that only sticks at the full open position. Well, doesn't really stick, just doesn't snap back to closed...

Luckily I have another bike to ride while we sort this out...

Yeah... at least it is a good story... better than some kids knocked it over.

The cop said he would be really pissed. I just looked at him and said what can I do about it? As long as it gets fixed...

That sucks! That poor, beautiful bike. Get her fixed up good as new.

The story sort of reminds me of Arnold trying to fly the Harrier in the movie "True Lies" and bumping all the police cars with it.

Man, that happened to me. Friend's kids knocked my FZR over. We heard the crunch and went running.

When we found there were no squished 7 year olds under it, my buddy went to town on his girl and her friend.

It busted my alternator cover and it was my only transpo at the time too.

I probably would've been more pissed, but we were so happy nobody got hurt it was hard to be.

Re: My bike got blown over by a helicopter...

My girlfriend knocked over my '94 F2 many moons ago, when it was about a month old, by trying to get on it from the right side and it fell over into my buddies bike, causing it more damage than mine.
We were in the Circle K grabbing a couple drinks only to walk out and see our girlfriends staring at our knocked over bikes.
I replaced all the scratched, broken and bent stuff on both bikes and she made up for it. For weeks.
She gained a valuable lesson as to why I always told her to get on the bike from the kickstand side.

I have been on one of those flights... we had a guy get jacked up real bad during training... we booked it out of Lejeune, stopped at Pitt County Memorial just long enough to pick up a few units of blood, and then hauled ass to Duke.

Good end of that story was that the guy had damn near a full recovery!

Ohh, this was years ago... 1998 if I remember right. Could have been 99.

Helipad. There was a group of people waiting when we landed, they ran up with a cooler with the PRBC's, a few liters more of LR, and some hespan. The guy was bleeding out real bad. They screamed good luck to us over the whine of the engine, ran back out of the way, and we were outta there.
