I did a quick search and didn't find any posts but this seems like something that should have come up. Of course since this isn't a Yamaha forum... maybe not. What do you guys think of this hopped up R1 being produced by old-timer Jamie James? There was a right-up recently in CycleWorld... have a gander. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Articl...ID=2565&Page=1 http://www.jjpracing.com/ |

I'm pretty sure we discussed them when JJ first came out with it, but it may have been lost during the "conversion".

How come nobody ever seems to trick out a Honda? Or like the new R1-LE which was profiled in the same magazine. Why doesn't Honda come out with a special edition 1KRR with premium parts all around. Even if it appeals to a limited market that can use and afford it. I'm sure all of the R1-LEs will find homes. Wow me Honda... is that too much to ask?

Yeah it definitely wasn't meant in a bad context... but ex-racer wasn't really what I was looking for either. I guess what I meant was "out of the spot light, kinda forgotten about unless you are a true race fan" I actually used to love his Vance and Hines race replica FZR back in 91.

Well, Honda has sold some pretty limited quantity "racebikes in street trim" homologation specials before.

I know you weren't doggin the Ragin' Cajun. He has always been one of my favorite racers (and is one of the nicest people you could ever meet).

Ten Kate makes a hotted up 1000rr that still has lights on it.
Personally I like the way aprillia does it, for about $4000 more you get ohlins suspention and damper and OZ wheels on the R model bikes.
You could build the yamaha for less than they charge for it. Not the case with the aprillia.

Unfortunately the Ohlins stuff on the Aprilia and the Ducati's are all OEM and not what you would get if you actually purchased Ohlins components. They don't share more than a couple of parts with the Street and Track stuff and they certainly aren't Superbike components.

Really?
That sucks.
I don't think these "specials" really add any value, or the R1 LE for that matter, so I've never thought much of them.
The "specials" Honda builds, if we're talking RCs...that is a much different topic!

One of the GLRRA folks that had a 996 XLR GP blah blah (or whatever the hell the "Race" model was called) needed to get his forks rebuilt and he sent them out to Stig. Stig called him back when he received the forks and asked if he could get the parts from Ducati. "They're Ohlins forks, and you're the Ohlins guy, why do you need parts from Ducati?" Stig explained that they are spec forks and quite a bit "less expensive" than the Ohlins forks you would purchase for your bike as an aftermarket add-on. They are made by Ohlin's but to the manufacturers specs (and price point).
I later found out that this is the case for all of the Italian spec bikes (except for Bimota).

Wow, very good to know.
I was told the fancy forks on my MV are extremely complicated internally.
This wasn't necessarily a good thing, as it didn't sound like suspension guys are overly fond of the Zocchi's.
I haven't really ridden it hard enough to know at this point...but I don't like the shock much.

Is that like putting a Jardine sticker on an Akrapovic exhaust?

Kinda like Scotts stamping their name on something Ohlins won't sell for streetbikes, too.
