Pirelli Dragon slicks vs Michelin 1800

Has anyone tried both of these tires? I'm riding the 1800's now and they seem to be a really good tire, problem is I can only find them from like 2 places and prices are a bit steep ($350) unless you order from STT which takes years to get them. I found a great deal on the Pirelli's but have never used them. Any thoughts on either tire would be appreciated.

Where did you find the deal on the Pirellis? I've been running the Dragon slicks (190/55) for a couple years and like 'em a lot...

That's cheaper than what I've paid ($305) for an SC1 front and SC2 rear. Depending on track conditions and how hard you ride, you should expect a couple of track days out of a set. Tire pressures are key in getting the most out of them...

I'm no expert...I just act one on the internet!

Depending on how warrm/cold it is (and mind you, I've been at Grattan when it's snowing), I usually start around 29R/30F and adjust from there...

I'll see ya' at Grattan...and I'll buy the first beer!

Re: Pirelli Dragon slicks vs Michelin 1800

don't get abtech started on pirelli/metzler!

I've ridden on dragon slicks and honestly they weren't a whole lot different than the supercorsa dot tires to me.

As for being ghey, its okay if you are... Just ask red rider about his daughter and he won't think you are. He won't like you either though...

Nickelii, did you order from TigerSharkRacing.com? If so, how did it go?

Red, where do you get your tires from?

Thanks.

Re: Pirelli Dragon slicks vs Michelin 1800

I bought mine from Absolute Cycle Performance, but it looks like they aren't offering the same deal. A couple of guys I was with at Grattan last week bought their slicks from TigerShark (after I read this thread and told them about it) and they got them quickly and were cheaper than I paid.

There are two different levels to the Dragon slicks, just like there are with the SuperCorsa and SuperCorsa Pro DOTs. Do you know which Dragon slicks Tigershark is selling?

I was looking into running the Bridgestones this year, but the 'Stone vendor flaked out and hasn't gotten back to anyone that I know of. The local Pirelli guy is good, though.

Re: Pirelli Dragon slicks vs Michelin 1800

I didn't order the Pirelli, I went with Michelin. I did however talk to the guys at Tigershark Racing and the Supercorsa DOTs and slicks are old. They told me that Pirelli guarantess their race tire for up to 3 years money back. The front tire they said in 120/70 soft could be up to 2 years old and the rear was made early 2005. I cant buy a tire that's two years old, I'm paranoid enough as it is. I looked at the Super Corsa Pro DOT but they are $350 + shipping which is a bit above the rest.

I also looked at the 002 because they offer a 190/55 and I've heard great things about them but couldn't find them in med from anyone. Wonder why Michelin doesn't make a 190/55?

I saw those. The only Pirelli slicks I've used are the Dragons...

BDA-

You wouldn't happen to have some more info or links to prior discussions regarding the SuperCorsa Pro DOT's would ya? I'm looking for a new trackday tire and gathering all the info I can find. So far it's between the good old Pilot Power's, the Dunlop Qualifiers, Corsa Pro DOT's (if I can find any info), SuperCorsa race tires (sc1, sc2 etc.), and Dunlop D208 GP "A"'s. Any info or suggestions you or anyone else have regarding my choices would be very helpful in making the right decision. Just for reference, I will not be using tire warmers for the time being and they will be run on the track only. Oh yeah I got a track bike too, an 04 R6 (coming up in another thread), ditched the k5 1k.

FYI- One of the fastest advanced track day riders I know is running the Bridgestone 002's and absolutely loves 'em. He can't stop raving about them. This guy trail brakes so late into turns it's just downright scary. He says it's a very predictable and very "forgiving" tire.

Re: Pirelli Dragon slicks vs Michelin 1800

Well the Qualifiers aren't a track tire, they are a street tire that is to be used for an occasional track day. They really aren't in the same class as the other tires mentioned.
Both the SuperCorsa and SuperCorsa Pro are Pirelli race DOT tires. The Pro is a slightly better tire, more feel from the front end. Either would be a good tire for your track bike. If you're just doing track days, not racing, go with the SuperCorsa as they are a bit less expensive.
I was very intrigued by the 'Stone 002, and initially thought I had a great hookup there, but the guy totally flaked, so I went back to the tire I know best.
The Pilot Powers are the current fad, but I'm not sold on them - have never liked Michelin handling and grip characteristics myself, but others do like them.
The Dunlop 208GP tires are a tried and true tire as well.

If you go Dunslop go with the 209s. Everyone I've talked to that's ridden them and the 208s have said the the 209s are quite a bit better and wear very well.

BDA, have you ran a set of the new power races? I used to run pirelli too, but am running the PRs now.
