Online Traffic School

Got a speeding ticket the other week......75 in 65 on a clear freeway. First ticket for many, many years. As I was on a motorcycle we all know I would be automatically guilty, no extenuating circumstances, no "mercy" from the court, no breaks, no nothing, etc. etc. so I didn't bother fighting the ticket. More money for the Policemans' Ball. I opted for online traffic school. Much much easier and more convenient than having to drive down to some physical traffic school and sit there for 8 hours. I completed the online version in 2 hours.

Did I learn anything........yes, I learned that the average American horn sounds in the key of "F". I can now drive much more safely!!!!

(Do I sound bitter????)

Whether you think you can justify it or not, you broke the law, brother.

Pulling you over for doing 75 in a 65 might seem petty, but they are perfectly within their rights to do so.

Yes, but even you have to admit that if I had been doing the same speed in a dark colored minivan I wouldn't have even turned the officer's head. And when it comes to speed limits, the law is often an ass, implemented more as a way to collect funds than to keep the roads "safe". Road safety is 90% driver ability.

My post was more about my new experience with online traffic school, and to pass that on to others on this forum who have not yet experienced it

No, I don't have to admit that at all. My mother once got pulled over in North Port, Florida for doing 2mph over the speed limit in a '79 Mustang. that car could barely DO 65.

I don't have a problem with police doing their job. Some may be assholes about it, but so what? and the one who popped you might have seemed like an asshole for doing what he did(which was his job, by the way). But who knows, perhaps he's been on the scene of fatal bike accidents one too many times.

I'd cut them a break if I were you. Chance are you've been clocked before doing more than 10mph over.

Consider yourself lucky to have so many options. In my part of the world, your only options are: 1) pay the ticket (and the resulting higher insurance rates), or 2) go to court and take your chances (which aren't good, since they're just there to take your money). We don't have a traffic school option, neither in-person, nor on-line. And we don't have "points", either. Three tickets and they just pull your license. Even just 1 ticket @ 25mph over, and they take your license on the spot. (:

(If I sound bitter, it's because my most recent ticket was utterly bogus, literally a flagrant lie, but if I were to go to court it would have been my word against the cop's word and guess who loses when that happens!)

"Some may be assholes, but so what?"....what sort of a response is that. Are you saying that the cop who gave your mother a ticket for doing 2mph over was doing his job well?
And maybe I've been on the scene of one too many fatal bike accidents, and maybe the cop who pulled me over hasn't been on the scene of any.
And maybe the chances are that I haven't been clocked at 10mph over before.

I should cut them a break???????

Anyway....back to the main point of the posting. Online traffic school.....it is a far better way of keeping the offence off your record than the old fashion way of showing up in person.

Re: Online Traffic School

I didn't realize I was coming off as bitter.

I'm just saying that it's really this simple: You were breaking the law, and a cop pulled you over for doing so. You've really have nothing to be angry about at all.

Not bitter, just realistic.

LOL Phew, for a minute there I thought you were some pro-cop, bleeding heart, left wing, pinko, commy, liberal who wants to ban motorcycles and everything else that's fun!
Yeah, I know that the law is 65mph where I was, and it's posted plain as day. But it's a pain when it depends on the mood of the officer whether you get a ticket or not. If the cops actually enforced the speed limit to the exact letter of the law.....with everyone...there would be a public outcry.
Everyone gets pissed off when they get a ticket.......don't you know that the laws should only apply to other people!!! LOL

Besides, it's hard to ride around on a 175mph machine with a power-to-weight ratio of less than 3:1 and keep exactly within the speed limits!

I understood what you were saying, it just read like you were having a bad day.

I usually cruise about 10-15 over myself, on the RR or in the wife's caravan (the Jeep just won't get above 70 no matter what). Just like death, when it's your time, it's your time. It just happened to be allred's time to get busted.

Online traffic school sounds pretty cool though. Must be much better than sitting in a classroom full of slackjaws who shouldn't be driving in the first place.

The old lady told me I've been testy lately last night.

Maybe it's that time of the month.

I am pro-cop, though. I whole heartedly appreciate the service they provide. But "bleeding heart, left wing, pinko, commy, liberal..."

Ain't that the truth, I have got away without getting a ticket for well over 15 years, so it is just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was "hidden" in heavy traffic on the other side of the freeway, and I just didn't see him in time. As long as I can keep it to one ticket every 10-20 years I should be alright!!!!

Re: Online Traffic School

Online school is definitely 1,000% better and easier than showing up. And as long as you have an IQ higher than current gasoline octane ratings you can get through it in 2 hours or less.

And one of the questions was "What key does the horn of the average American vehicle play in?" I know it was put there to make sure you read the whole blurb, and not just read the parts you think you are going to be questioned on......but it sure seemed silly when I saw it.
So if a cop pulls you over and asks you that, you can tell him........"F" !!!!!

The problem ofcourse is that you weren't a cop yourself so that when you opened your wallet and flashed your badge it all would have became a laughing matter. No ticket, no school, just be on your merry way. Oh I'm sorry all cops are honest decent law abinding citizens who never speed themselfs.
Just give me the autobahn in Germany back in sixty's. No speed limit, but yes you would get ticketed for reckless driving.

Here is something they don't tell you.

This doesn't get expunged from your driving record. It still shows up when the insurance company does its checks. You have to file a seperate petition to get it fully removed from your record.

Don't believe me, just wait until you have to renew your insurance.

I don't know what the forms are to get it expunged. All going to traffic court does is go on your record and counter the point so if you get more they can't take your license as fast.

Just for grins, call your insurance company and have them check your record.

Some cops are dicks to even thier own. Not all extend the "professional courtesy" epecially if you are out of state or county.

Re: Online Traffic School

Doing traffic school here does wipe the ticket out for insurance reasons. That must differ state to state.
And I have friends that are both city cops and county sheriffs and the highway patrol will give them tickets all day long. Not all LEOs turn a blind eye to other LEOs and not all LEOs are ticket happy. And yes, most LEOs are law abiding citizens.
Of course, all it takes is one whiny-assed teenager leeching off mommy and daddy to start internet rumors, and the rest of them follow suit.

Don't know where "the jungle" is located but it must differ from state to state. Only reason I know this about cali is cause, been there done that. Both insurance companies picked up even though going to traffic school.

Other than all yr riding, multitude of tracks, endless mountain roads and dirt the to the horizon, Cali blows.

Re: Online Traffic School

my city and maybe the state offers a diversion program. You still have to pay the fine but the ticket stays off of you record if you go ticket free for 6 months. But if you get hit again you get them both. You can also hire a lawyer through Kansastraffictickets.com.(a division of ustraffictickets.com) I used them for my diversion, never had to appear and and they got the diversion cost and ticket fine reduced to 150 for both. I was caught doing 55 in a 40 so all in all pretty cheap
