Need opinoins on safety gear for 1st track day

I have been riding my 929 for 6 years. I have riden on backroad "tracks" a few times a couple years ago. I stopped doing that for legal and safety reasons.
I do want to take it to a real track. I am currently in OK and Hallett near Tulsa has trackdays there.

I want to be safe so I had some questions as to what gear I need. I usually ride on the street with Timberland boots, Jeans, Teknic Chicane Jacket, Teknic Chicane gloves and a Shoei. I feel that this is relatively safe for street riding.

I want to know what I need to get to be track safe. Do I need a 1piece suit or should I just go with separate pants? Do I need real racing boots or not?

Also should I get track tires or will my street tires do?

I don't want to spend a fortune especially since I don't know if I will ever even go again (but I may). But I also want to get what I need.

i'm not an expert but i think a helmet, leather pants, jacket, gloves, and boots are all thats needed for the beginners course. i don't think safety wiring is even needed for your bike, just taped lights.

Street tires are OK for the street group track day as long as they are in good condition.

I would suggest a 2 piece suit if you are riding the street as well, you will have to get the full 360 zipper though, not the small 6" zipper in the rear.

Boots, get a decent pair of riding boots but timberlands will not work IMO

The helmet should be less than 5 years of age

When buying gear remember, an ER room and ambulance ride costs mor than the most expensive gear out there.

There is a list of stuff on the Hallet site. They are pretty loose. I would recommend adding a back protector. Also if they let you ride in your boots duct tape the top (holds the laces in place)

If you're planning on attending one of the "Motorcycle Lapping Days" at Hallett Racing, read about the requirements here:

http://www.hallettracing.net/hart.html

and there is some more info here:

http://www.hallettracing.net/pdf/mot...ppingentry.pdf

CMRA holds races at Hallett. You have to attend an accredited racing school before you can enter CMRA races. But there are other groups that have classes/races/events at Hallett, so check out hallettracing.net.

Every track day organization has slightly different rules, so always check first.

I don't care what the organization requries. You need the full kit, I'll just reiterate what Hammer said.

2 piece leathers with full 360 zipper. (an alternative, if you like is an Aerostitch 1 piece, but NOT most other textile gear and especially none of that worthless mesh **** like a Joe Rocket Phoenix) Good leather gloves with a gauntlet. Leather road riding/racing boots. Back protector. Helmet less than 5 years old that is DOT/SNELL approved.

Anything less, and I don't think you, nor anyone else, should turn a wheel on the track.

Shop for deals, look at used, don't worry much about style, and you can get respectably kitted out for about $600.

Good place to start for deals.

What size is your foot? I have an old used pair of Alpinestars boots I'd sell cheap. Size 11 I believe, blue and white. They're not great, but never crashed, and miles better than timberlands.

p.s. all routine maint should be up to snuff, such as brakes, tires (as mentioned), chain, ect......getting rejected for simple tech stuff would blow.
