| UPDATED: Unfortunate Incident: Third Doctor Visit Bad news from down here in South Florida. I had my first motorcycle accident on Mother's Day, 5/14.
What happened:
Made a right hand turn after allowing two cars to pass and proceeded in to the left lane. Moved over to the left side of the lane and I was hit on the left side of my bike. To the left of me was the yellow street markings of a median. The impact was a side swipe by a Chevy Impala. I was ripped off the bike and my bike then hit the ground and slid about 10 feet on its left side. After myself and the bike came to a stop, the bike was laying on top of the double yellow line, leaking oil profusely.
Damage to the bike:
I got the bike back from the tow yard. The car broke off my frame slider. Noticed by seeing that the slider bolt was bent forward and the slider broke off in a forward manner. Since there was no frame slider, additional damages are: Cracked left fairings, front fairing(left side), Cracked stator cover, Bent left Helibar, Broken clutch lever, Ripped grip, Bent bar end, Scraped left pass. peg, Bent sub-frame, Scraped swing arm. I think that is it. To get it driveable again, stator cover, clutch lever, left clip-on(I have original).
Damage to me:
Bruised left knee, mostly behind (Car)
Hole in left elbow (Car)
Broken left hand, dislocated 5th metacarpal, fractured 4th metacarpal, 5 pins and many stitches. (either Car or pushed into clutch lever by the car and then breaking off the lever)
Very little rash. (Jacket pulled up in the back
I was wearing a my helmet (no damage, not even a scuff), jacket(EMTs cut it off), jeans(also cut off), and boots. I didn't have my gloves on, but from the impact, the doctor(looking at the x-rays), said it would have maybe saved me from bleeding not the broken bones.
All and all, things are going well now. It takes me a while to type now with only onw hand. I have a lawyer getting the police report and doing other lawyer like things. Other than that, I started back at work today so thats a plus.
P.S. It is going to suck this summer not being able to ride for a few months. Here are pics of my hand and the scene after the fact.
EDIT: Two days in the hospital with that crappy food sucks.

Sheep, agreed, but in this instance, I just gave the doctor an easy entrance to place the pins. |

| Re: Unfortunate Incident: graphic pics Ouch.
I'm not sure I'm following how it happened though. There was a car over the left lane that you didn't see and he hit you from the rear when you turned into that lane? |

| Re: Unfortunate Incident: graphic pics Still waiting on the police report but, from my perspective. When I turned no one was traveling in either lane. Then as I approached the left side of the lane thats where I got struck. Where the car came from I don't know. My thoughts on it are that:
1. the car was going way to fast (30 mph limit I believe) and didn't see me, trying to go into the median to avoid hitting me.
2. the car turned behind me trying to go around me.
3. As I turned right from a stop(red light), going north, the lights changed, a car turned left, also going north and didn't see me.
A lot of speculation until I see the police report. The good thing is, two witnesses said they saw the car hit me.

Get back on as soon as you can (though don't cut your rehab short), and you might want to get the frame checked by a specialist, if insurance isn't going to total it.
healup
