Running low psi in your pilot powers?? Might want to run them higher..

I've heard numerous times that Spencer and Schwantz schools run the psi high in the pilot power street tires..

Dale at racers edge is an instructor at spencers and he says to run high psi in them.

powers are silica based and CAN NOT SHED heat like a race tire.

Wow, 37/38 still seems high to me, but I was also told to run Pirelli Diablo Corsas at the street pressures, even on the track. What do they recommend for track pressures with the Pilot Powers? On the track, I've run 34/34 with the Corsas and they've been fine, and I know folks that have run them 36 or so on the track. Still feels weird, though, as I'm used to dropping pressures to around 30-31. Guess these new generation of tires are different!

Thanks, that makes sense. Pirelli recommends the same for their Diablo Corsas. I just ordered a set of Pilot Powers and I'm looking forward to trying them out. I've been running the Diablo Corsas the past couple of years. Time to try something else, although I've been happy with the Corsas.

When I went to the track on my PPs, I once let them down to 31 or so... made them overheat very badly. Spun up the back end and made a pretty picture though... rubber shreds chunking off the side...

exactly what i've seen also..they get real greasy.

After being told by the Michelin guy to run them at 30/30 at a (cool) trackday in Pahrump in February, I was very surprised when told at Spencer School in March that we were running them at 37/38. I was even more surprised that they warmed so quickly, and were very sticky even at those high PSI's.

I just called michelin and they referred me to another phone number. (1800-628-4040) This guy said Michelin sport use guidlines were as follows: 31psi in the front cold. And 28psi in the rear cold.

I guess I am really confused now as to what temperature to run my tires tommorow for my first track day of the year. By the way to be clear those numbers where for the Pilot Power tires. Thanks

The shop that installed mine set them at a lower pressure and they seemed to wander on the highway and on the brakes. I set them a little higher and they feel much better.

Well I just got did my saturday grattan track day. I set the powers at 31f/30r. They slid a bit but not to much. I think it hit around 71F or 72F that day. I think my next track days "FBO days

" I will set them at 32f / 31r. Other than that they seem to stick well. But I am just a novice too. So don't take my word on it.

But that is on the street, not the track. My experience is the pressures that feel good on the track, don't always translate to the street. Maybe because not loading them enough. I had street tires feel real good at about 32 on the track and feel really bad (as you describe) on the street. Don't really know why, just relaying my experience.

I ran my last set at 32/34 and they felt great at all times on the street(my street riding mostly consists of running twisty mountain roads). When hot I got pressure increases that put them at 36/38 and they run well at those pressures and didn't seem to overheat. It got into the 90's here the other weekend and running pretty hard most of the day they didn't seem to get greasy on me. I had just put my second set on the previous friday. I am going to go thru tires too quickly this year I think.
