| Re: SuperBikes! -- not the show I'd like to see The second episode is still extremely flawed-its not funny if you get a speeding ticket-it is'nt cool to strafe the canyons, running up and down the crest is not a viable alternative to a track day. Even the guy with all the peircings said the track was better and where he preffered to be. Then Bike night-thats exactly what cities who hold a bike night want to see-a few more hooligans-now you wonder why the cops in Royal Oak give us so much flack-they expect that all of us motorcyclists to act like a bunch of squids. |

Like I said it doesn't take a TV show to create idiots, it's in their DNA. They're gonna be squids with or without the speed chanel show.
How many other weekly ridiculous shows have been on for years that people did not immitate? Christ if this is the fear then over 3/4 of televised shows would have to be pulled ( which they probably should be due to lack of intelligence & substance) |

My point was it's a show & if you don't like/approve of it fine, but this is america where we still have choices. Evil Kinevil <sp? was a daredevil W/world wide exposure, yet I don't recall reading about bikers out jumping their bikes over semi's or buses.
There are a lot of good people here W/great advice on bikes, gear and other pertinent bike related items. I just think sometimes they can get to self ritegous on their opinoins, that's my main point and they ARE entiled to them also. |

After reading all the approval here in the last few posts I feel the need to go out and do a few wheelies and blow through a few canyons.
I'll be back when I'm through.
Nevermind - I'm not a big fan of wheelies. They tear up too much when the bike falls. |

| Re: SuperBikes! -- not the show I'd like to see Awww Come on guys. Wheelies through the Gap. Stoppies at the resort. Dragging knees over the yellow line.
What's not to love there when it comes to SAFE biker etiquitte?
What about the interview with McCoy? "This is a closed off road." I laughed outloud when they said that as a car was seen passing through in the distance. They didn't have to lie about it. If you visit performance auto parts, automotive accessories, turbo charged engine, www.ToBeFast.com you can see them cruising that strip on many occassions testing bikes.
I can say that if the road was closed it wouldn't be as maintained as it appears.
The show is entertaining to some degree. I keep waiting to see a good crash.
Maybe with better choreography and personalities things would be better despite the reckless antics. |

You say the word "Squid"... are you talking about a new rider or what? Haven't seen the show you all are talking about, but do you guys really have a problem people who stunt and do stupid ****? And besides of the obvious reasons of death, bad rep, and insurance prices. Now before you guys get pissed off at me for asking this. I just want to let you know that I'm just curious about it and don't take any side's on this matter. |

I get the fact you don't like it being done on public roads, or like it really being discussed here. As a rider myself I try watching out for kids and other people especially. Do you want some constructive criticism? Let me tell you this - you DEFINITELY act like a 21 year old! When I was 21 - I was the same way. I thought that people were too harsh on society's "squids". I used to say "...let 'em live the way they want...they're not hurting anyone". BULL ****.
1. Stunnas and squids are STUPID people. They have NO regard for the law and for the rules of the road. Not to mention the un-spoken "rules" of motorcycle riding. They cause accidents with their stupid "pet tricks" of hauling ass down the freeway one one tire. Now tell me something...is that NORMAL? Is that SAFE? Is that SMART? No...that is STUPID.
2. Because of the above mentioned assholes - motorcycles are harder and More expensive to insure. Cops immediately (with the exception of a few) group us all into ONE catagory - squids and stunnas. That means tickets!
The vast majority of sport bike riders are older and obey the rules. But the minority idiots (squids and stunnas) ruin it for all of us.
I'm not coming down on you dude - I am just "informing" you of the facts. That's why we care - Wheelies and DUMB STUFF - cause US TO SUFFER.
I almost forgot - if you ride a blade - this IS THE SITE for you. These people are absolute experts with Sport Bikes and expecially Honda CBRs. If you want to learn and improve - stick around! I have and I enjoy this site more each day! Good Luck - be safe.

| Re: SuperBikes! -- not the show I'd like to see Squid (motorcycle) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Squid(motorcycle))
Jump to: navigation, search Squid: [' Noun'] {slang, generally considered derogatory} is an irresponsible motorcyclist; generally associated with a new or reckless motorcyclist seen riding erratically and/or beyond his or her capabilities often without appropriate riding gear.
The origin of the word is varyingly attributed as a contraction of squirreley and kid, or an acronym for "Stupidly Quick, Underdressed, Ignorant and Dangerous" or "Stupidly Quick, Underdressed and Imminently Dead" It is also attributed to a beginning motorcyclist using direct similarities to the aquatic sea creature by the same name. Observing a squid underwater, it seems that the creature is unable to change direction while swimming without first coming to a near complete stop. Once the squid does stop and change directions, it can very quickly accelerate back to its regular swimming speed. Beginning motorcyclists (especially sports bike riders) commonly have trouble turning the motorcycle with any substantial amount of speed (causing them to slow down to unnecessarily slow speed to take a turn), while at the same time have a tendency to ride very fast on the straight sections of the road.
Often young, this motorcyclist is identified by their behaviour; (Reckless abandon, speeding, wheelies, stoppies etc.) and by their inappropriate attire; ( Shorts, ball cap, flip flops etc). Such a rider eschews all or most of the protective gear worn by many riders ( helmet, gloves, leather jacket, riding pants, and boots) and the social and legal norms of riding behaviour.
Often looked upon with derision by experienced motorcyclists.
Also referred to as " organ donors" and "soon-to-be-ex-motorcyclists" in tongue-in-cheek comments by other motorcyclists, comments that may have some basis in truth.

I just don't want to have to be in the middle of it, and wreck myself which I'm sure a lot of people would agree. From what I can tell so far you all sound like you know what your talking about, but something you might want to take into concideration is that it's not just young guys doing ****. There are guys in there 30's+ who do dumbshit and are encouraging the young guys to do it as well. Now I'm not saying my generation won't do it because we will do stupid stuff. I just don't want the finger just being pointed at young guys. Yeah, I have a fireblade. In fact I just bought it off of some old lady, because her son was an idiot and drove drunk and got himself killed because of it. I love this bike. Beside's the few scratches and the broken mirror caused from the accident. She is beautiful to me, and I don't want anything to happen to it. I mean we all take risk's everytime we ride, because you know there is some dumbass motorist who say's "they don't see you" and almost run you off the rode. That last bit obviously has nothing to do with what this topic is about, but I figured I'd add it in. |

| Re: SuperBikes! -- not the show I'd like to see MetalMilitia,
First, welcome to the site. A great bunch of guys, and you'll not only get mature and reasonable advice and articulate conversation, but solid information abounds here!
You have to understand that people here are HIGHLY sensitive to issues of squidly riding...it's become a pain point for SO many of us that on a weekly basis I think about giving up street riding and just sticking to riding at the track schools we run...but I enjoy riding Angeles Crest too much to completely give it up.
The issue of "Superbikes" is a further sore spot. While "Two Wheel Tuesday" wasn't a perfect show, it was at LEAST a "real news magazine" show for riders, and I looked forward to it. To have it off the air and have to watch knuckleheads make us further look like a bunch of idiot hooligans just pisses me off.
They CAN change the show to make it paint sportbike riders in a reasonable light. But quite frankly, I don't see it happening...not "sensational" or "titillating" enough I guess...
So you'll have to forgive riders here for being just freakin' sick and tired of stupid riders...and maybe that spilled over onto you. Don't worry, we're happy to have you here, and I encourage you to take part in a whole lot more online discussions here... |

| Re: SuperBikes! -- not the show I'd like to see I hear where you all are coming from, and I appreciate you kindness Cal. I agree with what your saying about this show portraying us as riders. It is bullshit, because most of these guys can only do wheelies and dumb ****. When it comes to hitting the curves there retarded. I've done most of my riding on a mountain pass. I haven't been on a track yet, but I want to. I think being on a track will only better the skills I already have. |

We just don't want the finger just being pointed at sportbike riders.
You answered your own question. I just reworded it.
I cannot tell you how many times at a stoplight I get a request from the guys in the car next to me to 'stand it up'. I just Now, why would they do that when I'm riding the 954 and nobody ever does that when I'm riding the ST1300? Obviously because we are being stereotyped by a few bad apples.
