| Re: 110 Octane It will run cooler, but performance wise, it won't do anything unless it's oxygenated. It smells pretty cool and your exhaust tip will be the envy of every wannabe racer at the Dairy Queen . . . |

A guy passed us on a clapped out streetbike running U4 the other day. My GF didn't understand why hysterics ensued on my part... |

| Re: 110 Octane Believe it or not, your bike will have a more crisp and responsive throttle with 87 Octane. It explodes much quicker. You don't have enough compression to worry about 110. |

Oh, and BTW, your bike will not necessarily have better anything with 87 octane...though it's one of the web's favorite repeated bullshit "facts", octane has nothing to do with burn rate of a fuel.
And it damn sure won't be more crisp than a well done, oxygenated high octane race fuel. 110 octane or not.
With that, I'm out... |

I started with the V-O-R-T-E-X stuff after the first post containing factual errors...those of which tend to occupy the majority of most fuel/oil threads. |

| Re: 110 Octane It's just that these typically harmless questions end up in lame debate with too many "experts".
The short answer to your question is no. Long answer would be if your bike has modifications and is fuel mapped to run race fuels then you will see benefits. |

With that, I'm out... | I'm not trying to argue here - only learn. Am I wrong when I say that 87 octane has a premature explosion compared to something like 110?
If I run a low compression in my bike or car \ If I run a SuperCharger or Turbo and place 87 Octane will I not get predetonation?
We have to run 114 octane in the TurboBusa otherwise we would do much more than "sparkknock".
With that being said; Wouldn't you theoretically get a more crisp throttle response from a faster burn than if the fuel was slower in reaction? Understanding however, this scenario would not involve motors pushing high compression numbers, just normal everyday engine builds. |

| Re: 110 Octane Higher octane really means only one thing theoretically: higher flash point. This is how it avoids pre-ignition from superheated carbon bits in and around the combustion chamber.
In reality, higher octane usually means a much better additive package and more stringent refining process. It usually means cleaner fuel as well since it isn't as much of a commodity as regular unleaded gasoline. Jobbers buy whatever they can get at the best price when they purchase regular unleaded fuel to supply the largest segment of buyers. As such, much of the unleaded fuel found even at major brand stations has a high content of non-gasoline components (i.e. water, dirt, pollen, grease etc.). Race gas has a much smaller target market and isn't usually sold at discount or even handled by most jobbers, so it is usually pretty fresh and has a lot lower percentage of garbage per unit than regular unleaded.
Leaded fuel has several other incidental advantages, but these are usually moot when used in contemporary motors. Oxygenated fuel on the other hand can over significant improvements in performance, although some require high pressure fuel pumps, larger fuel lines and rejetting/remapping for production based engines. |
