Are these tires still good

I am not sure how to guage track tires. Can you guys tell me if I can do a track day on these? How many track days can you expect from a new set of tires?
I think they are ok for atleast another track day but I don't have much experience with track bikes so I though I would ask.

Re: Are these tires still good

how many trackdays have you done on them... what would you estimate as the number of heat cycles? (makes a difference.. done a few cold trackdays where the tires never even got warm... )

On your last trackday did they feel like they were starting to slip any? How hard do you push them?

Do you use these for regular street riding?

How much profile is left on them? Hard to tell from that angle.....

That's a pretty big flat spot in the middle of the back tire for track rubber I'd trash them.

Re: Are these tires still good

Did you check the wear bars? They don't look blues but the front looks a bit gone.

Further in my opinion if there is a question REPLACE them. Yes tires are expensive but what does a lowside cost? Not to mention your safety which exceeds a set $$$ amount. Every time I have been in the pits and someone was debating on whether the tire was good for 'one more' session a crash followed. Far from scientific but...

Re: Are these tires still good

I dunno how much they were used. I just bought the bike with the tires on there. The guy who I bought it from said he would ride another trackday with it. Just wondering what I am supposed to look at really.

I have been riding street for 7 years and my 929 tires never looked anything like this. I would replace them when the tread pattern was disapearing which usually happened right down the center.

Re: Are these tires still good

in that case I would not chance them at all... get new rubber on there... amount of tread wont' necessarily give you indication of their grip at the track... now if you were only using them for the street sure as long as you got good tread then use them.. but I wouldn't for the track.... the balling up of the rubber dont' mean they are trashed for the street.. that only means they were heated up well the last time they were used... If there ain't much profile left then you might find the bike handling corners poorly as it will tend to fight you on the lean... so be cautious of that as well...

E.
but that's just my thoughts...

Take it from me. If you question them even a little bit, replace them. They won't make one more session.

Sounds like the first track day for you maybe? If so even more so get new rubber. New bike new experience don't let a portion of a set of tires ruin it (yes a portion, some would say $300 but you do get to use them for the duration)

Re: Are these tires still good

Your right, its not worth it especially since I really don't know where those tires have been. I ordered a new set. THe 929 needed a new rear anyway so I'm going to put this one on it.

Typically how many track days can you get out of a set of tires?????

Depends on how fast you are how the track eats tires, temps, what compound, etc.......

3 or 4 depending on the above

WAY to many variables to guess.

Power of the bike, rider ability (both poor and fast wear harder), track surface, temperature, rider weight and bike setup would all bear into it.

That said I got 4 days on a set of Dunlop Qualifiers on the RC and am going for another Saturday. I got 4 out of a set of Corsas and it was tempting to try 5 but not a good idea. Oh and I am slow

So -
A. YOU didn't "wear-in" these tires.
B. YOU are new to this bike.
C. YOU are new to track speeds.
Thus:
D. YOU would be a dumb-dumb not to put on new rubber.

How the hell can you even set-up your suspension on **** like that?
And you guys suggesting he could run them -

we didn't tell him to run them on the track.. if anything we all were asking for more information - BEFORE making any suggestions... THEN when we got more information - told him no way on the track..

I was the only one that even said to "possibly" use them on the street ONLY... but warned about the no profile left situation...
