| Ceramic Coated Exhaust So a buddy of mine is telling me that he's getting his exhaust coated with this ceramic film... He's telling me it will run 30 deg cooler and that he has actually tested it... Does this sound legit? |

I mean there has to be some reason that everone doesn't bring this up as a solution..... ??? |

| Re: Ceramic Coated Exhaust Ohh.... yeah, I guess that makes sense....
Lets say you did it tho, would you need to rejet? Air would be flowing much quicker....
Also, if there is anyone who has done this, how much did it cost? |

The way I see it, if you aren't after the last 1-2% of HP from then engine, then it probably doesn't make sense from a performance stand point. If you have an engine compartment heat issue, this is an option as is heat blanket/wrap; a word of caution here is that in some applications this insulation means the pipe doesn't cool and heat doesn't go away from the cylinder head and can cause issues. The last benefit is looks, which some really like, but I have also heard some of the coatings don't last that long.
The rejetting issue would likely be application dependent, but I don't see the improvement in airflow being that great ... but I've never used the stuff myself, so ... |

| Re: Ceramic Coated Exhaust I was originally looking at it for its heat shield abilities... from what I understand the inside and outside of the pipes are coated, so the heat doesn't asorb into the metal of the pipe.... thus lowering the temp, and allowing faster air flow....

| Re: Ceramic Coated Exhaust A couple of guys on the VFR List have had the JetHot coating done on their bikes to help reduce the ungawdly heat from the V4's...and to dress up the pipes a little bit, too.

| Re: Ceramic Coated Exhaust Ti pipe all the way back on my bike, dissipates heat faster than other metals. so I see no reason to mess with that.
on my car I have ceramic coated headers, I don't know it it made much difference but just switching to headers from manifolds certainly did make a difference. and yes they do look very good.

| Re: Ceramic Coated Exhaust Legit. Some people use header wrap to achieve the same effect. Not a big effect, but clearly legit.
I've got a D&D pipe on my ZX11 which came with a ceramicote finish. 13 years old and over 50K miles has held up as well or better than chrome.
FWIW

| Re: Ceramic Coated Exhaust I was going to use header wrap and moved away from the idea because of rust issues. The wrap can absorb water to some degree if it gets wet and cause rust if the wrap is left to sit and dry on it's own.
Look at my pics. My headers have been coated and do fine. Now that they are coated though I'm thinking about adding the wrap as well and try to keep things inside the body cooler. Sitting at a light or other stop gets hot.
Did my temps go down? Maybe - a big maybe. 1 or 2 degrees at the most. Does it look cool? I like a black exhaust. |

Not claiming to be knowledgable... just trying to learn | Coating the inside will also restrict flow by making the opening smaller. I suppose that's a negligible change in flow but one nonetheless.
I do, however, see this as a benefit to cars FAR more than motorcycles. Bikes already have the headers (and all pipes) out in the air stream to start. Cars have their headers locked in a box (under the hood) away from moving air. Cars will, no doubt, see FAR more benefits than a motorcycle would as it will reduce the under-hood temperature. |
