Spring Rate Help

Hi all,

I currently ride a 2006 CBR600RR. I am planning on replacing the front springs with an ohlins set and the rear shock with an ohlins. The question is: what spring rates should I choose? I am 165 pounds in my birthday suit and 195 pounds with all of my track gear on.

The racetech website was the only location on the web I could find that had a spring rate calculator.

Front fork springs:

Rear shock spring:
Spring Rate Calculation

For the front springs, racetech recommends 0.918 kg/mm. The stockers are apparently 0.83 kg/mm. Does 0.95 kg/mm sound about right or should I go with the 1.0 kg/mm set? I experience considerable dive under breaking using the stock springs.

For the rear springs, racetech recommends 10.6 kg/mm. The stocker is 11.0 kg/mm. I'm thinking that I will just replace the rear with another 11.0 kg/mm spring.

What are you all using?

Thanks!
-Tim

Re: Spring Rate Help

I just got off of the phone with Mr. Dan Kyle and he recommended the following for my weight and riding style (mostly street, occasional track day):

0.95 kg/mm for the front fork springs, assuming stock valving and 10w fork oil.

10.2 kg/mm for the rear shock.

I hope that can help someone.

I'm sure you all can guess what will be in my stocking this year!

-Tim

Re: Spring Rate Help

10.2kg for the rear? Maybe Racetech's chart os off. Did you ever swap the spring? If so, how has that spring rate worked for you?
