I FELL!!!

so i decided to go for a ride today, mid 60's and sunny perfect day right??? well i have new tires and Italian roads aren't the stickiest i was going around a turn and the back tire slid. I thought about holding it but say there was a little grass and then a little road to the right so i stood it up and tried cutting through the grass, what i hadn't seen was the 1 foot drob odd in the grass, I was doing maybe 20 but my from tire slid out and down i went, i think my lower triple tree is a little bent, i need a new windshield, cracked the upper fairing in 2 places and bent the upper fairing bracket. All in all it sucked, my first time laying it down is hopefully my last!!!

Re: I FELL!!!

Ebay! I haven't had any bad luck with getting in parts from ebay that weren't good. I'm looking at buying a setup of racing plastic (whats on my bike now) just as a backup because the price is so good, can get ALL plastic on my bike for $500 (then of course it needs painted and such, also its not ABS Plastic its fiberglass). Anyway should check them out see if they have what you are needing.

Always scrub in new tires on a familiar road where you won't have any surprises.

The dealership that my brother got his new tires at never said anything to him about it and since I was living half-way across the country I didn't think about it either. He went down just a couple days after getting his new tires. Low speed with mostly cosmetic damage but could have been worse. I think it is almost negligence on the dealers part to not give a thorough warning about new tires.

Re: I FELL!!!

I always take an electric pad sander with #80 grit and sand the shine off of new tires. I have an aversion to dropping my bikes.

i should have known they would still be slick, but is it about 500 miles until the tires are finally sticky?

Re: I FELL!!!

or you can lift the rear tire on a stand put it in first gear and hold the sandpaper in place while the tire spinning does all the work.

good luck, get that bike fixed up soon.

Re: I FELL!!!

here is a little side question, my steering wasnt straight afterwards, we brought it back loosened up the lower triple tree and adjusted it around and it seemed straight but it now touched thre frame on on side and holds an inch or so away on the other side when before both sides would stop about 1/4 of an inch away and in a hard left turn my right hand will hit the fairing support, like i said though it rides straight and it doesnt shake at about 90mph is this bad to ride it like this, what all is or could be wrong?

Re: I FELL!!!

That could be bent fork tube, bent triple tree, or bent frame.

Re: I FELL!!!

Stoney where did it happen at I'm from michigan and yes our roads are FUKCED right now. I say screw it, just use some jb-weld for plastic and sand that's what I did and it worked great. It sucks, I layed mine down last year trying to avoid a car, hey at least you had a soft landing and didn't grind down your body on the cement.
