CCT on a F4i.......?

Will a bad CCT only rattle and sound terrible at certain RPM ranges?

I just picked up a F4i project bike for cheap and its runs perfect and sounds great at idle, but around 4500 to 6500 rpm is sounds like crap.....like something is rattling very loudly in the right valve cover area of the engine. As far as I know its just the CCT. I just found it strange that it only sounds real bad between certain RPM range.....

APE Manual or another OEM tensioner?

If APE, where to buy?

Re: CCT on a F4i.......?

Search around about the CCT fix. You have to get a longer screw because the stock screw backs out which causes it to rattle. It is a cheaper alternative to buying the APE tensioner.

Re: CCT on a F4i.......?

here is one site to buy the manual CCT, I've replaced my stock tensioner with this one and it totally fixed the problem:

http://www.cbrzone.com/sprockets.html

here is a site with great instructions, this is for an F4i, I believe a 2001.
EDIT: <link was removed by moderator, please PM me if you need it >

and yes, the noise is at certain RPM's wether sitting in neutral or riding pretty much, best sound description I've heard is "sounds like a few BB's rattling around" and mine was at about 2200 and between 5000 and 6000 both up and down. I put the APE manual in and it went away completely.

the noise is not actually the CCT itself but the very end of the tensioner.
it has (who knows why) a separat "head" piece held on by a "c" clip or roller clip, the clip gets loose after a while (on mine it was right around 5,000 miles) and is little "head" piece is what rattles so much, it's said by Honda that it's no big deal and will not hurt anything, but if you are like me, you can't stand that distracting noise while you are trying to enjoy your ride .

hope that helps.

PS I used the exact tools described after trying other combinations to no avail, just spend the money on the 1/4 inch drive items if you don't have them already , it will save you some time.

Re: CCT on a F4i.......?

Yall, Im in the process of changing my own CCT the OEM one is the one i got....maybe a bad choice, but its all good. SO it was hard as H3LL to get the screws out without the lil special tools thats recommended. I used a regular L shaped allen wrench and a hammer for leverage, "Ghetto Rigged" ...took me bout 2hr. SO i have it out now, how do i know the cct was bad? I know the sound was around 4-5500rpms. But now that i have it out whats it supposed to look like or do if it was faulty? Any tips for putting it back in and what to look and listen for?! Any help would be appreciated! http://www.fireblades.org/forums/ima...s/rolleyes.gif
