What bike to buy?

It will be about 6-12 months away yet. Here are the bike's i'm considering:

Ducati 999S or R model (2003-2006)
Honda CBR1000RR (2005-2007)
Kawasaki ZX10R ( 2004-2007) ( not heavily favored )

I'd say an R1, but that bike has a built in bun roaster. So does the 999 for that matter, but on the 999 I would cut out the back half of the exhaust and make my own, thereby getting rid of the underseat catalizer that makes most all the heat. I suppose I could do the same to the R1.? I don't mind modifying a newer bike exhaust and it would look clean.

How's the "hot seat" on the 1000RR? Is it overbearing?

Re: What bike to buy?

Any bike with underseat exhaust is going to induce butt flames. Ever considered a suzuki?

Re: What bike to buy?

The under seat exhaust makes the passenger seat hot. Can someone tell me why guys are removing heat shields? I know it might look cleaner but it's there for a reason.

Re: What bike to buy?

I don't like under-seat exhausts either. In my opinion, the exhaust can looked just fine on the side of the bike. Kind of looked cool too.

I was going to buy the CBR1000RR but I didn't want the hot buns, and it was one of the deciding factors in purchasing my GSXR. Thank God Suzuki didn't follow everyone and stuck with their traditional exhaust.

As for why people remove their heat shields, I can only assume that they think it'll look cool. Bah!

Re: What bike to buy?

I have had a CBR1000RR for over a year and have never had a problem with a "hot seat". now my passenger has complained a few times, but she doesn't ride with me much compared to the time I ride. Make sure you have a heat shield and you are good to go.

Hey, I'm a Honda guy, but c'mon. The GSXR 1K is the best bike out there bar none!
And AGAIN! What's up with everyone considering the pathetic R1????

Re: What bike to buy?

What do you want to get out of a new bike?

How do you ride? Is it stoplight to stoplight, trackdays, stunting?

Who do you ride with?

What do they ride?

What is your budget?

Are you going to buy new gear, or use the current stuff?

A pertinent question. If you do alot of city riding you'll find any underseat will get hot. Blimey, my blade gets pretty darn hot and that's with the canon on the side.

And personally I love the look of a big sleek can on the side of a motorcycle. These underseat outlets look like the bike's arsehole, which I suppose it technically is, but it doesn't have to look like it.

Re: What bike to buy?

I'm not a fan of underseat exhaust. And I come on guys..did you see the option: GSXR in my first post? lol.

I think i'll go for the 1000RR so long as it fits my size ok. The R1 revs too high for city riding. Most of what I do is city riding and some canyon riding. I may get into track days later.

Re: What bike to buy?

Ive had the 05'1000rr with standard exhaust then changed to yoshi slip on for 3months traded up to the 06'1000rr fitted yoshi had that for 1month then put a full exhaust micron on it. have taken out the heat sheild and I ride hard so the motor heats up alot...I take the misses on rides all the time and she has never complained of a hot bum...maybe a sore bum but that is due to shi* all padding, nothing to do with heat... The underseat pipe does not heat up ur bum or the passengers bum...my experience and Ive done over 21,000klm already...on this bike
