Cooling/Oil Problem with 929

Hello,

I have a problem and I am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. Just got my bike back from the shop were I had some polishing done and chrome pieces replaced. As I was driving home I got the oil indicator light and the bike got really hot. It was in the 250 range when I turned it off. Well after an hour I brought the bike back to the shop. The mechanic was puzzled. He says that the oil and coolant pump are combined in the same unit. He seems to think that this dual pump has broken. I checked the fluid levels in the bike and it has enough coolant and engine oil. Before I have an expensive part replaced I was wondering if it might be anything else. Anyone have any ideas?

Find another mechanic if he thinks the oil pump and water pump are the same unit (he may have been thinking the oil cooler was the oil pump.). The oil indicator light means low/no oil pressure. Which parts did you remove to get polished/chromed?

i wonder if someone at the shop took it out for a 'beat run', and messed your bike up....you should have noted the mileage when you dropped it off, and what it was when you picked it up....and yeah , your oil pump and water pump are NOT the same unit. The mechanic sounds like a dummy

Re: Cooling/Oil Problem with 929

It has been ridiculous. The bike didn't have any problems when I dropped it off and now it has a million problems. We fixed the cooling problem. Turns out that a wire was loose going to the fan. Also, the oil pressure light is now off.however, now the FI light is on. Additionally, for some unknown reason, when you start the bike the flapper valve actuator makes a noise and vibrates like it is attempting to open the flapper valve but cannot.finally, to top it all off, something sounds as if it is rattling within the clutch housing/engine. They took apart the clutch housing and assembly but everything was in order. I'm hoping that the rattling has something to do with the flapper. If that's the case I will do the flapper modification.

However, I think that this guy got dust, from the polishing he did, into the engine. I know for a fact that the clutch housing cover was off while he did the polishing. I hope he didn't ruin the engine.

Now he is stumped as to what might be causing the rattling noise or the mysterious problems with the oil pressure.

Any ideas?

Re: Cooling/Oil Problem with 929

you really think it's a good idea to have this guy work on your bike EVEN MORE ? If your bike ran fine when you dropped it off, why drop it off again for him to possibly screw something else up.Also, you sure that 'rattling' is not your exaust valve under the bike ?

Re: Cooling/Oil Problem with 929

I never officially took possesion of the bike. I am giving the guy a shot at fixing it. I made a mistake in my last post. Its not the flapper making the noise, its the servo motor for the exhaust valve. Do you think that it could be the exhaust valve rattling around? Also, what happens if I disable the exhaust valve servo motor? Anyone ever have a similar problem? Do you think the exhaust valve could be stuck?
