| Hometown Idiot From my local paper, this was about five blocks from my house.
"Urbandale police investigated a single-vehicle accident around 1p.m. Thursday, July 19, on Hickman Road near 149th Street. A motorcyclist was observed doing "wheelies" down Hickman, the investigating officer said. After one such stunt, the bike came down wrong and the driver lost control. The driver was not seriously injured, but the motorcycle sustained extensive damage. Clive EMS and the Urbandale Fire Department assisted at the scene."
I wish they would publish the name. Stuff like this attracts cops to everyone.

| Re: Hometown Idiot Some friends from church bought their seventeen year old son a new Ninja 500 about 5 months ago. He has put 4500 miles on it but has two or three tickets on it now. Last week he got caught going 90 in a 35. When he told me the story he admitted that he had been going 110mph right before they caught him. He was laughing the entire time he told me about it. I lectured him a little bit but he completely blew it off. He went to court for it yesterday. I'm hoping they impound his bike. He has it for sale already because he has decided it is time to move up to a 600 supersport. I hope his parents don't let him make that move. His dad is a surgeon and seems to be a pretty bright guy.

| Re: Hometown Idiot Yeah I think you caught the problem right there - attitude. Bikes these days are much more powerfull than even just a decade ago and yet to get on one of these things requires how much experience? Maybe they need to build into the price of these bikes some "advanced" rider training and dish out harsh penalties when riders are caught doing dumb things on the streets. A few years back a friend of mine lost his licence for 3 years after he led the police on a 40 minute chase - he was going so fast he never even knew they were chasing him as they had to radio ahead to get him stopped. He saves it for the track now but it took him quite a while to learn his lessons. So now he has an R1 and a new "attitude" to go with it, he behaves on the street. |

Now when U get done for doing a wheelie(in Oz) they fine you for not having full control of your vehicle...? BUT I say if you can do a mile long wheelie you are 100% in control of your vehicle???
I do understand that there is a time and a place for shananagans, but I aint hurting no one but maybe myself? If I am doing wheelies down at the industrial areas at 11pm on a saturday night....
Now for peps who are doing things on main rds at peak hour traffic then yes they need to be stopped but there are alot of peps who do do stuff away from other public users... |

| Re: Hometown Idiot If your not dangering any people around you, the roads are clear and you are not driving dangerously then i think you should be able to ride a bit over the limit, and maybe push the boundaries - only a bit.
The moment you start acing foolishly, or endangering the general public or property i think you should be taught a lesson. And if that means your bike getting taken away, so be it.
But some people get given a little fine when they should be taught a lesson. And vice versa.
Hmm, i wonder some times... |
