| What is the one thing you never leave home without.. When your going riding what is the one thing you always take with you? Lets leave out the obvious answers like "motorcycle" and 'my head" - Is there something you always bring along that nobody else ever has? Some of the off road guys I ride with can produce a workshop from various parts of their bikes and bodies..
These days I always take my camel back(old guys need lots of fluids), some high energy food like a protein bar or similar and I never go without my cell phone just in case. |

| Re: What is the one thing you never leave home without.. I'm with you OrgOwner on the camelbak. I bought mine for offroad which I thought was the best money spent ever, but one day I decided to take it with me on the roadbike and I've never ridden without it since. Even during the middle of Winter I still get thirsty and there's nothing like being able to sip on the run. I will admit that I tend not to stop to stretch the legs as often now because I used to just carry a small bottle of drink in a backpack. Worth it's weight in gold I say.
And I never go anywhere without a mobile phone (you yanks call it a cell). |

| Re: What is the one thing you never leave home without.. Started carrying a complete tire plug kit with a co2 cartridge. Have picked up nails and other sharp objects that have left me and fellow riders stranded on these Washington D.C. highways & Backroads . Have had to replace fairly new rear tires at least 3 times last season due to punctures in the tire. Which leads me to a new question. But I won't be a , and I'll start a new one. |

| Re: What is the one thing you never leave home without.. I have a laminated card that I keep in my jacket and one in my bike . Has emergency numbers
Police officer,EMT or doctor finding this card:
My name is ******
if I have had an accident or for any reason am found hurt, unconscious or I have died please notify this list of people where I am, what happened and my condition
Contacts and numbers
Doctors number
emails
Sounds kinda bad, but if I go riding alone and something happens i always wonder how people I know will find out and how fast.
Cell phone also and I always have an extra $20 bill in the trunk of my bike. Never know if you forget $$ or your wallet and are far enough from home and might need gas. I also stash $20 in any vehicle just in case (even though with higher gas prices i might have to start stashing $50 bills hehe) |

| Re: What is the one thing you never leave home without.. Well, let's see, phone, money, credit card, medical insurance cards, license to carry firearms, condoms (sometimes), mini tool kit, 2 cloth rags, pens, phone chargers (overnight stuff), wipes, bike insurance and registration stays in the bike at all times, mp3 player, gloves, brush (helmet head), riding glasses (in town use only), cologne (small bottle), and eye drops. Seems like a lot but if I go anywhere outside of town, it all goes with me in a backpack or in the trunk. The total weight of my back pack with the necessary items is less than 5 lbs. No stress on the back for longer trips. Future items will include a tire repair kit w/CO2 cartridge and emergency contact card. Those are both good ideas, just in case. Thanks Forceten and #414 for the insight. |

| Re: What is the one thing you never leave home without.. Along with the usual (wallet, cell phone and basic tools), I always wear my dog tags. It may not seem very necessary but all my most pertinant info is still readily available should my wallet "disappear" in case of an accident. It's also still a habit of mine from my time in the military. |

| Re: What is the one thing you never leave home without.. On nearly every ride I take:
a $50-dollar bill, ExxonMobil Speed-pass, thruway/bridge/toll EZ-pass (mtd on bike), Leatherman "Flair" multi-plier tool, tire-seal spray (know I have to replace the tire anyway if I get a flat, so why get dirty with a repair kit?) with 3 extra CO2 vials (I want it firm!) and charger (all of these also on/in bike), Shure E-3 canal-phones with custom ear-molds, ipod nano with a combo Van Halen, ZZ-Top, RATM, and Smashing Pumpkins mix, Ray Ban sunglasses, 6 red chem-Lights (to mark a breakdown), medium-sized real Japanese dagger for self defense(some in Axio carbon-look back pack, some in pockets or "on"), Mini mag light, Camelback (40 oz first gen from 1995 with new tube/bite valve), wired-in Escort radar detector connected to a "Boostaroo" and a combiner so I can hear it through my tunes if it goes off), a tank-bag with maps/overlays and assorted junk (duct tape roll, pretzels, red bull, spare batteries, cell-boost charger, ipod back-up charge pack, etc), cellular phone, portable CB radio (only for long trips in hills outside the city), and the obvious: keys, driver's license, bike reg and ins, and a current health insurance card with my contact info, blood type (o-pos), and allergy (compazine) listed on back. |

I can go on for days about the other stuff that I wish I didnt leave home without.
Topping the list: ear plugs.... but I've purchased a 100 pk of earplugs and I have to leave 3-4 sets in each riding suit/jacket. If not I cant stand to ride faster than 40mph for too long.

Plus, although sounding like a lot, it pales in comparison to the 75Lbs of gear I jumped with regularly in the Army. Much of the bulk of it is in the trunk (I kept the full size trunk and just cut the rear fender on the 929, and have not really gone too far on the -51 yet) and I always have a back-pack on anyway... |
