Road Rage Motorcycle Hater?

Just thought I would share this experience I had with you guys and ladies today..

Well every time I ride I always go through the same neighborhood. Sometimes Its pretty late but I always respect the area and since my bike is pretty loud I try to make sure that I don't disturb anyone. Today I was doing the usual route and when I went by this persons house all of a sudden some man comes running out of his house screaming and pointing at me.. At first I looked around because I wasn't sure it was me he was yelling at because I wasn't aware of anything I was doing wrong.. As I pass by his house he makes it out to the street and lunges at me while Im going about 25mph. I swerve to miss him and keep going just to get alittle further down the road to decide what I should do when all of a sudden a big SUV comes chasing after me.. Well at this point Im pretty pissed, I value my life and feel very threatened.. So I let him chase me for alittle while to find a open parking lot to confront this a$$ hole.. I pull over he jumps out of his truck and comes running at me, saying he sick and tired of motorcycles, and people coming down his street and telling me he is going to kick my a$$. Well im about 6'2 225lbs and take really good care of myself and have pretty good training under my belt so I wasn't really worried.. So I let him threaten me for awhile before I indentify myself as a police officer.. He still was wanting to fight, saying " us people on motorcyles have no respect for cars or people".. I had already called local PD to assist being that I was off duty.. He got charged with felony charges all because he is a motorcycle hater.. I just wanted to share my encounter because I just think people need to be aware of these kinds of people.. He would of ran me over if he had his way.. Just another reminder of how us bikers have to be extra careful... Also I was wondering if anyone else has had any experiences with road rage motorcycle haters...

Interesting read Maholli, I get the looks from people standing in their front yards with the watering hose or whatever. Maybe bikers all look evil because you can't see our eyes or face through the helmet. People get that defensive look. I often give them a wave but not many return it.

Re: Road Rage Motorcycle Hater?

Yeah I try to avoid people like that and I tried to just drive away but he proceeded to chase me and was really trying to hit me with his truck.. He was in a full blown rage, not really thinking that his truck could kill me in an instant.. He really had something against bikers. Im not sure why..

Its good to hear justice served for once. You are a hero!

Wow, this must be contagious. We had to take three people out of service at work last week, because they went nuts and started threatening everyone. Not even a full moon.

My wife and I had a guy lock em up on us at about 60 mph. He thought it was funny until the cop who saw the whole thing pulled him over and arrested him for D.U.I. and wreckless driving. ONE LESS A-HOLE on the road.

Those of us who are 5'10" 145# just have to try to run away and call the cops. At least our bikes are faster than most things on the road.

I did shop handguns tonight though.

I have found more persons treating me with respect that otherwise. If you keep on showing respect to others it pays at the end. Being a lover of Christ, it is my mission to love all and yes sometimes it is very hard but Jesus always comes to our assistance when we need Him. Try to see the good in people, and let us celebrate what is wright with the world and in doing so it pays of great dividends!

Re: Road Rage Motorcycle Hater?

Carrying a bow concealed inside the waistband is considerably less comfortable than carrying a handgun, and much slower to get lit up......

I love hearing outcomes like this, even if the situation sucks for motorcyclists. Had a similar thing happen to me some years ago. Called it in to the department and ruined the guy's day.

Yeah, I forgot to mention earlier how freaking awesome I think it is that you were an off duty cop so he is screwed. Ends up a lot better that way than if you had been someone else that he decided to chase.

As far as the bow it is much more accurate than the average handgun but a definitely slower and much harder to conceal.

At 25 yards with an skilled operator they both would group about the same. Most any handguns will group inside 3" from a machine rest. We all seem to have trouble actually being the machine rest.

Re: Road Rage Motorcycle Hater?

You should have kicked his ass. Really, everyone thinks that the Law will handle things. Truth is he was probably out before the ink was dry on the paperwork. If he even goes to court and gets probation for his little stunt, he will be even more pissed off and have no real reason not to do the same thing again. Now if he has some stitches and some bruised ribs, he may still do it again but I bet he would think about that what happened last time he pulled a stupid stunt like that. I respect your restraint in the situation, but I do not believe I could have. I do not ride the streets any longer, but when i did I always carried concealed just for this type of situation.

It would take more than a "skilled operator" with a pistol. It takes olympic level small bore before the pistols have a shot at the bow. At 25 yards with my bow I can consistently group well within 1". 3" groups with a bow at 25 yards would be considered terrible even in the women's divisions.

Edit: The inner X ring on a 20 yard archery target is the size of a dime. Much smaller than 1". It takes perfect 30X scores to win. 30 arrows in a target the size of a dime at 20 yards.

Re: Road Rage Motorcycle Hater?

About once every year or about 10,000 miles, someone in a large vehicle looks at me and makes a decision to find out what would happen if they invaded my lane. Sometimes they like to announce their intentions by honking their horn before reving their engine. One even kept yelling at me that I'm going to die. I guess many people are latently crazy.

I have learned to avoid people in big Dodge trucks. They have the most insane moments.

Oh, no accidents and no tickets, but I'm not immune to crazy people. I like my literbike, because I can leave for good. I am aware sometimes they will try to follow. Its a game for them to see how far it can go and I suppose their intention is to blame it all on me if they are caught.

Even though my dad drives a big Dodge truck with a 30 foot horse trailer behind it. I'll agree with most of this. Especially the "latently crazy" part.

Re: Road Rage Motorcycle Hater?

Similar situation happend to me last summer. I live deep in a residential neighborhood so it takes me a good 10-12 minutes to get to a major route. God bless suburbia... anyways there's a house on the way out that always has like 4 year olds playing in the road with mom and dad sitting on the front lawn. I ALWAYS slow down to the speed of smell when I'm around there to make sure I dont hit one of "lifes little speedbumps" . Well this time apparently i wasnt going slow enough cuz dad jumped in his car. I didnt think anything of it, just coincidence in timing. Well he followed me all the way to the mall, into the parkade up the the roof level and alll the way accross the parking lot (I try and park as far away as anybody as possible). Sure enough I jump off the bike and that sawed-off lil phuck jumps outta his car and starts cursin me out as to how I'm dangerous for his kids to be around. I tell him the street is for traffic, let the kids play on the grass and they dont have to worry. He keeps going on and on about how I'm a stupd reckless kid and **** like this and then it gets interesting. He shoves me. I tell him not to touch me or do it again. He smiles and asks me what I'm gonna do about it (6 years of boxing, 5 years of hockey fights, brown belt in karate...) so i ask him again to please not touch me. And then third strike, he pushes me again. So i cold clock him with my motorcycle gloves on. And it drops him cold. I call the police and they come within minutes and find him still laying flat out. They take my side of the story and when he comes to, they take his side. They dont believe me at first so they go inside. Security tapes show him pushing me three times before i hit him. I said I felt threatened, he got assault on a minor.

Well all I can say is everyone has a right to protect themselves when threatened.. Im not the type of leo that runs around saying " Im a cop" my work is my work and when Im not working the last thing I want to do is "play cop".. Its just a job to me, I like helping people.. Thats why Im in law enforcement.. I never could cut it as a Kentucky State Police officer just because I was always letting people go.. At least for minor traffic infractions.. I don't like traffic enforcement, never have never will... I always try to put myself in the persons shoes im stopping.. I used to speed all the time.. When I left the KSP for the KDFW I never have been happier.. Now I mostly work with narcotic task forces in the winter and in the summer Im on the water looking at bikinis and enjoying my day.. I still have the same statewide jurisdiction just minus the traffic enforcement.. Which of course if I see a felony being committed Im sworn to act.. The only reason I didn't kick this guys ass was because I wasn't sure he didn't have a gun and really didn't want to ruin my day... He spent the night in jail I made sure of it..

Re: Road Rage Motorcycle Hater?

I applaude you for maintaining your composure with this guy. I once had a lady speak some choice words to me at a traffic light once. I pulled up to the traffic light beside her and I noticed that she was looking at me. I thought she was admiring me or the bike but when I turned to look at her she just went to the left and started ranting and raving about how motorcycelist are totally disrespectfull and incosiderant. I removed my helmet to say something back to her and she flipped me the bird and sped off. I didn't do anything to make her act this way towards me. I still wonder why this lady was so mad.
