| Looking for some peace of mind Hey guys, I just purchased my first Honda, (CBR 600 F2 1993) and I am very excited about it. I rode it around, and it felt amazing, smooth engine, smooth ride, tires are nearly new. There was some scratches and an attempt to paint up the engine cap but I know that thats what happens with a 14 year old bike. Other than that, it had original faring, which looked awesome. I did see some flaws, and now that I have purchased it, i am a little afraid.
First: I dont know how to describe this technically so ill do my best. I assume you all know that near the base of the bike, the left and right faring come together and make a sort of tip. Well, that was misaligned a little bit and missing the plastic screws to hold it together, although I managed to put it and align it right. I figure this is an easy fix and that I need a nut and bolt to keep em together. The pipes and everything else under neath looked flawless.
Second: And this is the biggest one. The inspection sticker-- What i thought was an 8 which stood for 08 was in-fact the 8 for October and the inspection was expired in 2k4. I dont know what to think of this... Perhaps the guy didnt ride that much or perhaps there was something wrong with the bike... I dont know. I did a cycle check (vin search) and everything checked out clean, no problems, with the exception that at one point there was a lien discrepency which was later fixed. I opened up a little bit of the farings on the side and the engine looked great. I just wanted to ask your opinions and whether or not i should be worried. This is my first sport bike and i dont want it to be a bad experience. Thanks. |

| Re: Looking for some peace of mind Stolen Bike.... Naw, probably a lazy owner or it just was not worth it to him because he did not ride it enough. Look at the mileage on it. Fourteen years should have racked up some K's. If not then I reiterate my point. |

| Re: Looking for some peace of mind Bike has 17k miles-- The first owner apparently had it garaged for most of his time with it (6 years or so) and the second owner from who i purchased it from put in the rest. |

| Re: Looking for some peace of mind Perhaps its just a horrible case of buyer's remorse. I just wanna make sure that all my bases are checked. I should be geting it inspected in a few days, just extremely anxious. Like i said, other than the 2 problems listed above, the bike looks flawless. |

Does not sound like you have any reason to think the worse. Relax and enjoy your new toy, see what happens at the inspection. It's a Honda so your on the right track |

| Re: Looking for some peace of mind Man that is a fun bike, my first one was a 1993 F2. I still regret to this day ever selling it. Go get it inspected and ride the he** out of it. |

| Re: Looking for some peace of mind I stored a buddy's R1 for about 6 months while his garage was stuffed. In exchange he let me ride it whenever/however I wanted. (nice guy!) After a few months I discovered it hadn't been inspected OR had the tags updated in several years. When asked, he just didn't worry about it and didn't see the need to keep it up-to-date. I had the inspection done, b/cause it would have been ME getting the ticket and he later got the tags, but only 'cause I keep bugging him.
It sounds like the previous owner just didn't think it was a big deal to keep things up to date. Ride and enjoy your new bike. |

| Re: Looking for some peace of mind Well, i brought it in today, and just by doing a walk around without starting it up, the mechanic determined that it needed a new front, new throttle cables, and that i need to get my Yosh exhaust jetted although the last one is not pertinant to inspection. basically, these are small things that if the owner would have kept up with inspections and not just let it sit for 3 years neglected, this would be a very small cost. He assured me that it would pass inspection so i may be victim of verbal fraud (yea, it exists). Either way, its on the dl for 1 week while the parts come in, but im still excited as hell to get her going, and squeeze out many hours before the season closes. |

| Re: Looking for some peace of mind Having never lived in the US or owned a vehicle there, can someone explain what this regular inspection is all about? In the UK (and Thailand) you need to get an MOT (Ministry of Transport test to ensure safety standards are met) once a year. But without it you won't get a road tax disk or insurance. Is this inspection you're talking about the same thing? |

| Re: Looking for some peace of mind Yea, pretty much. Although they wont deny you insurance. You get an inspection purely for safety and without one you could risk a severe fine. |

| Re: Looking for some peace of mind Doesn't exist in Italy... as such...
Where I am in Italy if you have the document stating ownership of a bike you can get it insured. There is a road tax, that is compulsory.... but police NEVER ask for it when they do random stops and you dont need to show it to anyone EVER... but if you dont get one and they find out.. you get a fine. I never got one for my Ducati Monster and I had it for a year and a half with no problems *shrugs* iv had my Honda SP2 for about3 months and just about to take it off the road for winter, I am in the mountains so got great roads, but we get knee high snow so my bikes gotta go away.. putting it back on the road in May so will sort out my tax then.
No need for a TAX disc holder or anything on your bike.. its just another bit of paper you stick in beside your insurance documents. |

| Re: Looking for some peace of mind In Thailand you don't need to show your tax and insuance disks, except when requested to do so by the police. As so many little bastards like to steal these things for their own bikes, I keep mine taped down in under the passenger seat. When they ask I show 'em. |

| Re: Looking for some peace of mind Forgot to say that if you can't show these disks there and then you will get fined, but it's only 500 baht and the same applies if you don't have a drivers licence. The police then give you a receipt, which entitles you to drive for 15 days without one. Keep this receipt on you and you won't get fined again during that period as you've already paid |
