Losing power? reset ECU?

Hi everyone,
I need you help, wisdom and advise.

My bike: 2005 CBR 1000RR with full exhaust system and power commander.

Recently I notice when on a track day that my bike was lacking in power / acceleration.
At first I thought maybe the air filter only needed cleaning out, as the plugs had only been changed 2 months before. But this was not the case and the problem continued.

I took the bike to the dealer and he said the ECU needed to be reset as the bike had done over 20,000kms and/or because I hadn't ridden the bike for 5 weeks that the ECU had gone into 'safe mode'.

Well, I told the dealer to go ahead and reset the ECU and I also gave him new spark plugs (racing ones) to put in just incase.
When I got the bike back it was brilliant, driving hard and back to normal.

The question is, when I spoke to other CBR riders, they said that they had never heard of resetting the ECU before. So now I am wondering weather it was just a bad spark plug or will the problem come back again.

Has this happened to anybody else? or do you have any advise will be much appreciated.

Dealers are full of salesmen. Sounds like you met one. Did he also offer to run a virus check and defrag your bike?

good one..

I have never heard of that explanation either. The 20,000 km doesn't make any sense. I have over 24k miles on mine which is a whole lot more than that and it has had no issues.

Am guessing maybe you should dyno, and possibly remap to make sure you aren't running too rich and fouling your plugs.

Thanks for your advise.
I'm in the Middle East so unfortunatly they don't have a Dyno. I think you might be right about running rich, installed a HRC air intake and take seems to have even things up a bit.
