| Can an 06 be swapped out for an 05 frame? There's a guy on eBay that is selling a CBR1000RR for a friend. I ran a check on the VIN and although the pics are of an 06 the Honda owner's site showed the VIN as being for an 05. I called him on this and he said his friend had a head on and had cracked the frame. He says the friend found an 05 frame and used the engine and other parts from the original 06 to rebuild the bike.
Is this even possible? I thought there were CG changes that repositioned the engine and the swingarm pivot, not to mention the body work mounting points. So, I wouldn't think you could just swap an 06 frame out and replace it with an 05 frame.
I raised the question about the original listing to eBay and the listing was pulled, but now he has relisted the bike with the full explanation. Before raising any questions again, I'd like to know what I'm talking about.
I hate to be paranoid, but I won an auction for an 05 1000RR on eBay. The pictures were of an 06, but I figured maybe the bike was an 06 bought in late 05. Since there was no VIN, I couldn't check. When I won the auction I proceeded cautiously, and, long story short, it was a scam. Luckily, no money was exchanged. On the other hand, I bought my 03 1100XX from a guy on eBay, got a great deal, and he even helped me with the shipping. So, deals are out there, but definitely tread lightly.
Anyway, I'd really like to know if you can just swap an 06 frame for an 05 frame.
