| Re: KEYS LOST CBR 954 What is HISS? I recently had a similar problem with my R1 and Yamaha said there is a number on the ignition and with that # they could make a key. Call your local HONDA dealer and see if they offer the same option. Often times also you'll see sets on Ebay for ignition, gas cap, and key if all else fails. |

| Re: KEYS LOST CBR 954 hi, HISS is hondas immobilizer system, i dont think the US 954s have it so its easyer to get a key made, the Australian 954s keys have magnets in the end of them that turns the HISS off before the engine starts.
Ill have to get on to Honda and see what they have to say. |

| Re: KEYS LOST CBR 954 Actuall my US RC51 has one I believe becdause I want to remove the ignition and just add a toggle, but was told I had to bypass the HISS. I have an after market triple clamp so right now my ignition is zip tied to it.(tacky) Any suggestions on that. |

tyrone. | Guard that key tag like it's made of gold. If you lose it, it's going to cost an arm and a leg to sort out. Make sure you get a couple of keys done so you have a spare. It will work out a lot cheaper. |

| Re: KEYS LOST CBR 954 Gday Guys,
Thanks for the replys, I have since found my key after turning my friends house upsidedown and finding the spare i left there! BUT.............
After talking to Honda Australia, They informed me that the ONLY way to get a spare key made up for a 954 that has HISS is to bring the bike AND at least one key to a honda dealer. If all keys are lost you have to replace the ECU and lock set! this will cost 1900 dollars +.
So big warning, dont be stupid like me when it comes to your keys.......
TREAT IT LIKE IT IS WORTH $1900!!
Once again thanks for the advice!

| Re: KEYS LOST CBR 954 I think there full of it. Seems there just tryin to make a buck, or 1900 bucks. I think a good lock smith could make one. Well congrats on your find, and dont forget to go get some extras made. |

| Re: KEYS LOST CBR 954 The Honda Hiss system is "un-breakable" as in if you lose the keys, you are screwed. I nearly had to go down the same route with my Honda Hornet.
I dont know what $1900 in £ is, but on ebay you can pick a second hand ECU/Lockset + key for about £450

that's what i had thought when reading you're original post. so, i was surprised when others told you that you'll be okay with the tag. but, we don't have HISS here, and i didn't want to be the dooms-day guy.
good thing you found a spare!! |

(i had to order the blank for him from a dealer)
if im not mistaken, HISS communicates with the key via an RF chip: virtually impossible to reverse engineer, although you might be able to copy the RF signals but you'd still need a key for both. |

| Re: KEYS LOST CBR 954 Does the tag have a series of about 6 numbers on it? if so, then that's the key code that a dealer can cut a new key from. (Honda doesn't give the cypher to locksmiths--apparently, it's a reverse code; so only dealers can do this)
However, a new key won't have the right chip to produce an RF signal that corresponds to your unique ECU. (probably not unique, but you get the point). The proper RF signal needs to be programmed into the new key. And in order to do that (here's the rub): you need a working key. |

This person is selling ECUs that do not need a coded key (bypass HISS) for various models including the 954RR.

| Re: KEYS LOST CBR 954 it's more accurate to make a key from the key code than copying a key.
also, it's not so pointless in countries (e.g., 'merica) that don't have HISS. |
