| how am i doing? I have just bought a 08 cbr600rr on jan. 21. 08 as my first bike and im 17. Now i know its definetly not a good starter bike and extremely dangerous. But i'd say i have pretty good self control. I have ridden atv's and dirtbikes for a few years and raced them. basicly ive had the bike about 4 weeks i ride mostly on backroads "love the twisties" i have completely eliminated the chicken stripes and have gotten my knee the whole day down.. im tryin not do rush it and i only do what i feel comfortable doing peer pressure really has no effect on my riding.. have not topped the bike out yet and i dont plan to unless on a track. still have not gone above 98mph on the staights which is fast but where i ride on either side of the roads r wide open farm land.. almost impossible for something to run out or drive out in front of u and most turns r visible..
My main point here is how am i doing when should i do a track day.. what advise can u give me.. if ur gonna say get rid of the bike then jus dont.. not possible and i love it.. but any suggestions on riding tips for getting better and safety for a 600 would be greatly appreciated.. My plans r to race eventually.. thannks in advance for the advise |

| Re: how am i doing? Just be warned, a lot of people on here will throw a fit and start telling you that you will die or things along them lines.
I think you should book yourself in as many courses you can e.g. MSF (if you have it) and other advanced ones and then maybe some track lessons after.
Through riding you will get more experience, but dont forget anything can happen on the roads, just be ready for when they do.
Oh and ps, to the site

| Re: how am i doing? my friend, if you have been riding motocross /dirtbikes , and 'racing' them..your totaly fine with a 600 as a first bike.Yeah street and dirt are different as some will say...but you will be more than fine if you just respect the bike etc....people act as if these 600's are 'missiles' ,and your strapping in and flipping the switch, uh uh...let's put it this way ,my friend who had never ridden a motorcycle in her life ,went and bought a brand spanking new 07 ninja zx6rr , and all she took was the motorcycle safety class, she is 19 yrs old... , and you may very well get bored with it rather quick wanting to upgrade to a bigger bike believe it or not....if you had never ridden moto x or anything, i could see you getting a used 600 or what ever...your dragging your knee and already scrubbing off the chicken strips ? you sound like your doing just fine ...congrats on the new bike |

| Re: how am i doing? Go blackrider. Goodluck with the riding and you seem to be doing good. The first oppurtunity you get to book yourself for a track day, do it. If you can spare $500, get yourself am after market fairing from ebay (gr8 looks) and hit the track. Read the track before you race. Read the book or watch the vedio The Twist of the Wrist from Keith Code. Helps a lot in knowing things about road and track racing. If you have a Track racing school join it asap. Don't waste time. You will not do things 5 years down the line the way you will today.

| Re: how am i doing? Just stay in your own lane when your knee is down...you don't want some guy in a cage running over it, Lol. Good thing to do is go to the library and check out a book called 'Twist of the Wrist II'. It's all about the best way around a corner. Can't win if you don't finish. |

| Re: how am i doing? some simple advice. we are what we think. it's fine and well to want the opinions of others but be careful with their advice. beware the naked man who offers you his coat. there are a lot of morons out their offering you their advice. only a fool will tell you to continue what you're doing is safe. it's bloody dangerous. you are pushing the limits and as such, there is no room for error, and sooner or later through diesel, deer, car driver, trucker, flat tire, oil, panic when overshooting a left hander, you gonna crash. safe. |

| Re: how am i doing? I hate to be the party pooper but I wouldnt get too over confident. The twisties arent the same as farmland and you still have to worry about a road hazard (dirt salt this time of year) or an animal jumping out while you're dragging your knee and feeling yourself on this new bike.
Tracks are more predictable settings to test your skills. Although I've heard of wildlife coming on/near the course If you wanna race I'd get to the track asap... some clubs even have their own smaller race events.
What part of PA are you from? I'll probably be at Summit Point, Beaverun and the new one in Jersey (near Philly) this year. Hope to see you out there

| Re: how am i doing? i would have to say that you should save the knee scraping to the track only. there have been a couple of incidents here in t.o where very experienced riders went to the land beyond because they crossed the yellow solid line. and it was all becuase they kept on pushing the boundaries.
you should be fine on a track. have fun and push it there. Make sure you have a fresh set of good tires when you go. power 2ct's should be fine. |
