| OIL LEVEL RISING (SMELLS LIKE GAS) RUNS LIKE CRAP I bought my 07 1000rr last summer and I have noticed the performance isn't what it was and it gets hotter faster. I run fully synthetic oil and change it regularly. My gas milage has dropped from about 41 mpg to 38. I noticed my oil has been getting very dark too soon and the level seems to have risen, smells like gas. No smoke when it starts though. I think I have an injector stuck.... any ideas? |

| Re: OIL LEVEL RISING (SMELLS LIKE GAS) RUNS LIKE CRAP i'd check the compression first. sure sounds strange for a new bike.

| Re: OIL LEVEL RISING (SMELLS LIKE GAS) RUNS LIKE CRAP it does smell a bit rich, but I haven't noticed any smoke. I just did the tank recall and talked to the mech there and I'm not positive but i think he was an idiot. Then a week later they closed the store. The nearest dealer is a good jaunt away and as new as it is I was hoping for some warranty action. I dont want to take all the way there and have them tell me they cant find anything and pay their 96 dollar an hour charge but if some cleaner will fix it I'll try it. But the only way I think fuel can get to the oil is through the injector. I don't know to much about efi and don't want to screw up my bike |

| Re: OIL LEVEL RISING (SMELLS LIKE GAS) RUNS LIKE CRAP i would think if u get it in there soon warranty should still cover it. possible head gasket???? not sure if that would lead to a fuel smell or not....is there any coolant in the oil? |

| Re: OIL LEVEL RISING (SMELLS LIKE GAS) RUNS LIKE CRAP no coolant in the oil, I take it in and see what is going on. As much as I hate to. Its a Honda, I should be able to ride till the wheels fall off! |

the only things i can think of is that your rings didn't seat properly during break-in. this will cause blow-by. but, you should see some grey smoke during riding after giving it a lot of throttle and backing off.
or perhaps, you have a valve stuck open or a weak valve spring.
that's why a quick compression test would help a diagnosis.
oh and
im sure some other knuckle, err...gear heads will chime in. |

| Re: OIL LEVEL RISING (SMELLS LIKE GAS) RUNS LIKE CRAP Although your bike is new and it would be unusual attackdaddy, your problem sounds like a leaking fuel pressure regulator. If the diaphram inside it leaks, fuel is drawn into the engine via the vacum line going to the regulator. I think it's closest to number 2 cylinder. That would explain all your problems.
If you search the forum you'll find several of identical problems you describe. Almost all were fuel pressure regulators. Take it in for warranty and steer them in this direction. Also don't ride it much with the gas in the oil, it'll wear out your motor. Be sure to change it. |

| Re: OIL LEVEL RISING (SMELLS LIKE GAS) RUNS LIKE CRAP I agree with Denzee - had a similar problem with my 929 but caught it during a short ride - changed the regulator and the bike runs good as new. Since this is a new bike, the warranty should cover the new regulator. |
