| Re: Today's Gas Prices & Gas saving advice I only pay $2.44/gallon and the price hasn't budged since the beginning the year! Yep, $2.44 a gallon....
for Propane. LPG fueled Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. Still gets 18mpg same as a gas one, and I drive at 85 mph 37 miles each way to work. Check your local city auction for ex-police vehicles. Plenty of CNG or LPG fueled Crown Vic's out there for dirt cheap. 136,000 miles and still going strong!
Also, did you know gasoline is only ~$1.85/gallon and Diesel ~$2/gallon in Mexico? Yeah, don't let anyone tell you a Government monopoly on fuel distribution is a bad thing for the consumer. So much for the free market.

| Re: Today's Gas Prices & Gas saving advice You all should consider yourself lucky....in kenya (east africa) we pay on average 6.12$ per gallon and still rising every two weeks.
As for tips for fuel saving...follow your service schedules and your baby's gonna be running efficiently as new |

| Re: Today's Gas Prices & Gas saving advice Usually the price per gallon difference in other countries is due to fuel taxes. The Federal fuel tax is 18.4 cents and the State tax varies by State. Average State tax is 28.6 cents so 47 cents per gallon total average tax vs. a duty + VAT per liter in the UK which averages 117% fuel tax. |

| Re: Today's Gas Prices & Gas saving advice 3.99 for regular in Ohio. I just drive slower, or stay behind truck. Air resistance does not really become a factor until 55 mph or more. |

| Re: Today's Gas Prices & Gas saving advice $4.35/gallon for the high octane today. Man this sucks.
I'm hoping my powercommander will help with fuel economy during commuting.
It is much smoother in stop and go traffic now.
All hail the powercommander.
Riding the bike more is my advice. I just did a total cost calculation for another thread here and I saved $979 by riding the bike instead of driving the car (only 18mpg) over 8000 miles. |

| Re: Today's Gas Prices & Gas saving advice 91 oct. out here in Sacramento was $4.69 last I drove by Valero(yesterday). Usually arco/ampm is the cheapest out here but their just as much if not more $/Gallon. Then again almost all of California pretty much sucks gas wise. |

| Re: Today's Gas Prices & Gas saving advice I got 43mpg's with the powercommander and 92 or 93 octane. I did the same trip and got 40mpg running 87 octane. Both were taking the exact same trip to work for 2 days with no other riding mixed in.
The traffic may have differed.
I think the octane might have an effect on mileage. My Lexus requires premium fuel and gets an extra 3 mpg or so when I use it vs 87 octane. |

| Re: Today's Gas Prices & Gas saving advice Apparently the owners manual says the bike (929) was designed for 86 octane or better. I just assumed that a low displacement engine with the amount of HP our bikes have would have the compression higher and require premium. I was wrong.
It doesn't require premium fuel with the stock compression ratio.

| Re: Today's Gas Prices & Gas saving advice $4.29 mid grade in Gaithersburg MD. Insanity! I drive a pathfinder and thank GOD I live .7 miles from work. A co worker drives about 50 miles round trip in a jacked up big tired V6 frontier. He filles up 2-3 times a week at $85 a fill. They used to say buying a motorcycle to save on gas was not really a money saving idea. With prices this high you can actually buy a bike and the amount it saves you in gas will cover the bike payment and you dont even have to drive it every day. Although it sucks I do hope it will mean a lot more people in this country will resort to bicycles, scooters and motorcycles like in Europe. We could use the exercise and the room some smaller things would give us on the roads. Plus the more popular 2 wheels get with the general public the lower insurance costs will get and the more accepted they become. We hope. |

EXXON used to be Standard Oil by the way, ya know, the ones who kept Hitlers war machine running, via Prescott Bush, yes... G.W.'s grand daddy, and who supplied EG FARBARN with the gas used to kill the Jewish population... just a few tid bits of extra info on the ways of the world for ya). Cheapest price is $3.80 in the bad part of town. |

I guess using that sort of logic, everyone who shops at Walmart not only endorses the oppressive regime in China, but are directly responsible for political massacres there and should hang publicly.
BTW, it's RocKefeller and IG Farben.
Good, short, writeup on that theory: The Straight Dope: Was President Bush's great-grandfather a Nazi? |

| Re: Today's Gas Prices & Gas saving advice thanx for the history lesson... its 4.09 here in philly for reg but I put 93 in my blade. I know this is a stupid question but I wonder if a barrel and a drum are the same size?
Anybody use 93oct for regular cruising on their bikes? tried 89 once when I put in my stage 1 jet kit and mounted my full exhaust and she didn't like it unless i tuned her wrong or something... Thanx in advance for any feedback. |

| Re: Today's Gas Prices & Gas saving advice If you mean the typical 55 gallon drum you might buy race fuel in, then no. An oil barrel 42 gallons of crude. Interestingly, they get a little over 48 gallons of product out of a barrel because of 'processing gain', the addition of other products during the refining process.

| Re: Today's Gas Prices & Gas saving advice so either way theres even more of a profit of the extra product. I am a mechanic at an aerosol plant which make product for gunk, belray, crc, liquid wrench and I know all our cans are overweight, meaning more product for the customer, most of it ends up on the florr from jams and cans missileering across the floor-neat sight lol....
Thanx for that barrel answer, didnt know that... |
