| When do you replace your tires??? Hi All,
I've changed bikes from cruiser to a CBR (YEAH BABY!!!!). I was just wondering, how much wear (km or miles) do you go before you replace your tires. I'm not riding balls out (I'm advennturous but not stupid) because I'm still getting used to the ride. The bike has about 4500 miles on it (6500kms). I have no idea what kind of riding the previous owner did. Although he told me it was 'non abusive driving'.
Thanks all!!!!

| Re: When do you replace your tires??? A good rule of thumb is when your tire gets "squared off", meaning when you lose that rounded profile, you should be thinking about a replacement. When you should really worry is when the tread in the center is completely gone (this is much after the squaring). You should be puckering if your riding on a tire that has its white cords showing through.
However this will all come faster if you're not doing much track work or canyon carving, such as lots of commuting or cruising. For that, a good sport-touring tire should fit the bill nicely. Both Continental (ContiSport Road Attack) and Michelin (Pilot Road) make great tires for that. |

| Re: When do you replace your tires??? I replace mine when they hit the wear indicators, or when they have heat cycled to the point that the compund is shot and they start sliding on me.
I don't see how people are getting this kind of mileage from supersport tires, 3000 miles and my rear is usually roached. And just about everybody I ride with gets better mileage from the Pilot Powers than the the Pirelli's.
Maybe I am just hard on tires, and no I don't do burn out's. |

| Re: When do you replace your tires??? my Qualifers were only good for about 1000 miles but that was 3 track day's, the centers are still pretty good, but now the tires are "blueing" and getting to squirly on the track/street. so they gotta go, they'd be perfect for commuting (hence the need for extra set of wheels)
most miles i could get w/ Corsa3's was 4000, least i got was about 1500.
it's all in the throttle hand how many miles she can get. not much here. |

| Re: When do you replace your tires??? Bulldog you big squid. Quit tearing up new road
Yeah I only got 2200 out of a rear last summer with 2 hallet TD's on it, had plenty of tread wear left down the center but coming back down after running 90 in MO. things got kinda exciting, it was like the compound just gave up all at once one minute the grip was fine the next minute I was sliding all the way across my lane in a turn.
Good times. |

| Re: When do you replace your tires??? Betting, i haven't hit new road up even once in 08, yet . haven't seen any group rides posted that i could attend with. although i headed to locust grove to mow a yard, and take my trailer to my parents house. Saw at least 1 TSR guy, and probably a few others. wished they'd posted up a ride, i probably would have went. i got some buddies that i ride w/ regularly but haven't rode with them yet this year, other than Hallett.
had my Qualifer rear step out last week a little, i decided i'll commute 1 1/2 more weeks on it then replace. |

| Re: When do you replace your tires??? I'm seeing about 5K out of Bridgestone BT012's on my 954 before replacing them. I'm gone with the Pilot 2CT's as well this time around. Just currious, I've always replaced front and rear together at the same time. Do any of you guys replace just the rears and keep the fronts longer? |

| Re: When do you replace your tires??? i usually do 2 fronts to one rear. i would prefer same time swaps, but i can get at least 4+K out of a front, and still feel comfortable riding aggressive on it. |

| Re: When do you replace your tires??? I usually replace a front every other rear. By the time the second rear is done the front's usually done as well. It'll still have tread down the center but the cupping and wear on the sides will be to the point where you want a new one. |

| Re: When do you replace your tires??? Since there is a lack of curves here in Iowa I get extended tire life. I'm at 6950 miles on my current set of tires and the center just hit the wear bar and started showing the different rubber that is underneath. I'm going to put on a take-off for a little while on the rear then put on brand new tires trackside at my next track day.

| Re: When do you replace your tires??? some of you guys are saying that you run your tires till belts are showing. to me thats outrageous. everything is based on tires. you dont have them you dont have anything. i personally would rather spend $150 and be safe then risk it. |

| Re: When do you replace your tires??? Yeah we really are nuts with the belts showing i agree. I think if im not mistaking i remember having a perrilli diablo once and if you look on top of you tires an if you see a little black bump between your tread lines that is your wear indicator line. honestly same as in all the tires even on cars. once you start hitting that. thats when your tires should honestly be changed cause you only will have a few more hundred miles pending on how hard you ride left. |
