| Re: WHATS THE BEST TIRES FOR A 929RR? I would say that you dont need the very sticky tires if youre not trackin the bike. Going the sticky route is gonna have you changing the tires more often. You say that you are just cruizing right? Try the Michelin Pilot road tyre. the BT014 is also a great tire and gave me decent life with hard riding. If you must have sticky sticky though, look at the diablo corsa. |

| Re: WHATS THE BEST TIRES FOR A 929RR? I'll go with what rokitt51 is suggesting, but slightly different. I'd recommend the Michelin Pilot Road 2 or even the Dunlop Roadsmart. The difference between the standard Pilot Road and the Pilot Road 2 is that the center compound is still a tougher compound than standard Supersport tires, but the Pilot Road 2 also has softer "grippier" rubber on the edges for when you are leaned over. Think of it as some extra piece of mind (for a little extra cash of course) or like having two tires in one (or as close to it as you can possibly get). Same goes for the Dunlop Roadsmart but the construction is different.
Continental makes some pretty popular (overseas) dual-compound tires too, and they claim their dual-compound is better in that instead of having two compounds together on the tire, it's all made from the same piece of rubber but is cured differently on the edges, so there are no "seams" between the hard and soft compounds...rather just a smooth transition. |

| Re: WHATS THE BEST TIRES FOR A 929RR? I've been researching tires for my 929 for about a month now.
I don't think the pilot tires are thought to be the best. The best consensus I've come to is that the Corsa III's are the best for the street if tire life isn't an issue. That being said, I've heard quite a few people say that they cannot tell the difference in grip between a sticky tire (dunlop qualifier, corsa III, pilot) and a road tire (michelin road 2, michelin road, continental road attack, etc.). One of these riders said he only got 1000-1500 miles on a sticky rear tire (he has to ride like a maniac imo) and he gets 5000 miles on a sticky front and road rear.
I think I will buy the michelin road rear and the road 2 (dual compound) for the front. Contrary to intuition, many people have had good results from using a different front than the rear. Most did stick to the same brand though. |

| Re: WHATS THE BEST TIRES FOR A 929RR? Hmm, everyone here seems to like Michelin. I went with Metzeler Sportec M-3s. Sticky, but supposed to have 50% more tread life than the M-1. Feels great so far, but I don't really push the bike that hard.
What really sold me was that they are supposed to be good in the rain. If I get caught far from home in a downpour, I don't really want some dedicated track tires. Motorcycle Daily
Check it out.

A lot of the riders that come through our CycleGear here in Sac are running similar solutions. Going with the dual-compound in the front but sticking with the standard in the rear.
And I agree with you that Michelin isn't necessarily the best. The big thing I've heard about the Michelin dual vs. the Pirelli dual is that when you're on the Michelins and they start to slip they catch up again whereas the Pirellis don't. I figure this has to do more with the way the tires' compounds are laid out. If you compare them, the Pirelli has a much wider section of softer compound on the sides than the Michelin. So I figure what's happening with the Michelin is that when the tire starts to slide out you're not on the softer material yet and then the softer material catches the surface and now you have grip again. With the Pirelli you're already on the softer material so it's not like there is any softer material farther out on the edge to give you better grip than you already have. So given this logic and assuming the compounds are similar, you should be able to go faster on the Pirelli before they start to slip then you were on the Michelin when it would slip then catch. Of course, if the compounds are different (which is pretty much guaranteed) then all bets are off. |

I follow you all the way until "if the compounds are different then all bets are off"
What do you mean by that?
For the pirelli's are you talking about the corsa III? What have you heard about longevity of the pirelli vs michelin? |

| Re: WHATS THE BEST TIRES FOR A 929RR? The prices will vary depending on which tires you choose. The road tires seem to be a little less expensive. Plan on spending between $260-320 for a set. You will also have to pay installation on top of that.
I have a size 200 tire on my bike right now. It came with it on. I'm going to change to a 190 soon. I wouldn't suggest going with a 200. The 200 will make the bike turn slower and initiation will take more effort. One of the great things about having a 929 is supposed to be the flickablity. Many of the articles that I have read on the 929 talk about it feeling much more like a 600 due to this. I'll post something after I get the 190 to let everyone know the difference it made. |

| if i'm not mistaken, i think your bike has a 17x5.5 rim. it's better to go with the 180x55 tire. the tire profile will be more rounded and therefore handling will be better and safer. if you have a 6.00 rim, then the 190x50 tire is ideal. |

| Re: WHATS THE BEST TIRES FOR A 929RR? I have a 929 and run the Mich Pilot Powers. My GF runs Corsa 3's on her GSXR. I went to Deals gap with these tires and never even came close to slipping. They stuck like glue. I also run a ton of highway miles here in Dallas, they ride nice. I like these tires for road tires with some ability to take some aggressive turns if you do desire.
The GF had Mich before she went to the Corsa's. She says that for road tire they were really good but the Corsa's are better for more aggressive riding (twisties). |

| Re: WHATS THE BEST TIRES FOR A 929RR? How are the corsa's for longevity? I need to buy a tire yesterday. All I can find locally are dunlop qualifiers. I think I may order something.
I was thinking of the 2ct's or road 2's but maybe the corsa IIIs would be good too. |

Maybe I should have been more specific so as to avoid any confusion. When I was talking about assuming the compounds being similar I was talking about Michelin's softer compound being similar to Pirelli's softer compound. That's why I was saying "if the compounds are different then all bets are off"....meaning that the whole theory of why people feel the Michelins catch and the Pirellis don't is based on that assumption. |

| Re: WHATS THE BEST TIRES FOR A 929RR? Corsa III is the best street tire for twistie sport bike riding that are 100% at home doing high speed track says as well. If that is not how you roll get a sport touring tire. 90% of sport bike owners could get away with just that. Next time you are at the local bike night take a walk and check out the amount of sport bikes with HUGE chicken strips and tires compltetly flat in the middle from doing burnouts. I have found that very few sport bike owners have a clue . |

Using the entire tire on the street is not smart. I don't measure a mans riding skill by the amount of tire he uses but by how comfortable I feel riding with him. Besides I have watched people scrub a tire in from edge to edge in a parking lot at less than 20mph.
There is no best tire, you need to narrow your choices down to a few and go from there.
Metzler Z6 sport tour, a friend of mine got 9000 mile out of that rear and for spirited street riding he never had a traction issue. |

| Re: WHATS THE BEST TIRES FOR A 929RR? I agree with all of you guys on that one. Most people really don't need the supergrippy tire to begin with. And as far as not having chicken strips on your street tires, I actually see that as a bad thing....because for most people it means that you turn by leaning the bike only, and you're not comfortable moving off the bike. I'm not the FASTEST out there, but I'd like to think I'm pretty quick still....for sure I know I'm faster than some of my buddies...and they're the ones without chicken strips. |

| Re: WHATS THE BEST TIRES FOR A 929RR? You guys are right. I spend 95% of my time on twistie roads and I generally don't hang off the bike where I may be seen by the public or the cops when I am on the street as to not give the impression of being overly agressive or racing. I rarely even use the brakes on the roads I like to ride. We bust eachothers nuts for having chicken strips and believe me with the amount of years most of our group has been riding ( just over 40 for me ) and racing wisdom of the sport is not in short supply. I think my bike night comment came from my own frustration of seeing so many jerk-offs on sport bikes collected in one place and knowing that behind my helmet the public doesn't know that I am a 50yr. old man and not one of the brats that scare the crap out of them pulling stupid moves on the street. This thread is an opinion search......CorsaIII's are the best I have found...Fact as I see it...If you do track days and leave with unused tire ( is that better than chicken or wisdom strips ) continue to do them and with more comfort you will use all that rubber...even with hanging off, I swear. |
