I almost became our worst enemy.

Went to Menard's to get some stuff for my bathroom. Was leaving the parking lot, looked left, looked right, all clear. Started pulling out and glanced left again. Sure enough there was a guy on a bike coming towards me that i didn't see. Slammed on my brakes (was only going about 5 mph) and let home go by.

Am shaken up over it because Ive always been weary and nervous of all those people and now i almost became one. Just have a guilty conscience about it.

Yeah imagine that! How would you feel trying to explain to another rider that you just didn't see him... The shame.

Re: I almost became our worst enemy.

yeah i was in walmart parking lot last year and i was going up the isle and a lady cut through the isles and was on my side of the lanes and she hit me head on i broke my colorbone and dislocated my shoulder. she and her passenger lied and said i was doing a wheelie. i had been riding a month i hadnt even thaught about lifting it up yet. i had gave it sum gas(it was a 2000 929) and it lifted maybe 2-3 inches. i had no witnesses but she had her passenger 2 verse 1 so it was of course my fault . i have a lwsuit against her

So let me re-cap this so i understand. Your riding for a month. Your on a 929. Your giving it **** in a carpark enuf to pull the front wheel up off the tarmac a few inches, and your suing her, but admiting this on a public forum.

Ok.

Re: I almost became our worst enemy.

Sounds like you are the one at fault BiGSEXY.

You won't get any sympathy for something as irresponsible as what you just admitted to from most of us here.

A power wheelie means you were going way to fast and were acting in a manner with no regard for the lives of people who may have been walking in that parking lot.

Personally I think at the bare minimum an individual who acts with that level of disregard for the safety of the gen pop, (especially children and the elderly who are always walking out from between vehicles without looking), should have their driving priveledges revoked and be assigned community service in an ER or Trauma center.

As to the OP Stegen trust me it has happened or will happen to almost everyone of us when we are in our cages.
Fortunately being that little extra bit of alert becuse you do ride is probbaly why you even noticed him at the last second.

Re: I almost became our worst enemy.

also about a month ago i almost ran over a little girl. I was passing by a ice cream parlor at about 20 mph. I by chance looked through the rear-to-front windows of a minivan that was parked infront of it. I saw a woman standing there and figured she was going to cross. I slowed to about 8 mph and as i got to the van a 3 year old girl darted into the street. I locked up my brakes to avoid hitting her. If i hadnt looked through the van i would have leveled that little girl.

Some guy yelled at me as i drove by to "pay attention". That really pissed me off because i was paying attention and prevented that accident. I couldnt see the woman over the van cuz she was to short.

Great summation SAF ...... for her side.

Re: I almost became our worst enemy.

the bike had a vortex sprocket it had crazy bottom end i wasnt flying i was going like ten that bike lifted barely tapping the gas at 3000rpm and wen the front end came up it was at the bottom of the parking lot she hit me at the top because she cut through the parking lot and was on the wrong side of the road. then she told the police that i jumped at her car on purpose then she got out the car yelling at me. a lady came over like 2minutes later and said did u call the police and she said hell no. when the police came she acted like she didnt speak english i tried to swerve ott the way to my right but there wasnt room and if i swerved to the left ther couldve been another car behind her so i had nowhere to go

Re: I almost became our worst enemy.

On the 929 i run a 14/60. Thats bottom end, it happily takes off in 5th, but still time and place. Im public enemy number 1 when i want to be, but in school zones, shopping centres, suburbia, streets i dont know .... no sir, doesnt matter how low the gearing is, for your own life, let alone someone elses, no time or place to pull power wheelies.

Re: I almost became our worst enemy.

Did you mean you gave it some gas and lifted the front while riding down the aisle or you gave it some gas to avoid her and the front lifted. One is very different than the other, ya'll. I, personally don't care if he was naked with no helmet on riding with a permit only and no insurance. When people cut through the lanes in a parking lot, they are at fault. It's almost the same as if someone drove over the sidewalk into your path and hit you. It is not the direction a car should be coming from. And we have all goosed the throttle a little hard to avoid a crash that hitting the brakes wouldn't prevent. At a months experience you don't have the throttle control that you would after years of riding experience.

I hope you win your lawsuit against them. I have almost been hit too many times by those stupid people in the Wal Mart parking lot so I have no sympathy for them.

I give two fingers to the eyes, saying "look" and I make sure to get on the horn quick so that everyone else around knows that I think they were stupid.

Re: I almost became our worst enemy.

it was at the beginning of the aisle i was turning up the aisle and when i straightened out thats when i tapped the gas a Lil to hard and it lifted i put it back down and looked up she was not there then i looked down again to make sure it was in gear in second looked up again and then she was there i tried to avoid her but she was on my side of the aisle. i have pictures that employees took for me her car was 3/4 of the way in my aisle. but because I'm on a bike it was my fault she was a damn liar and didn't try to help me so I'm suing her just to pay my medical bill. over 25000 in debt not including parts for my bike and the constant pain i still feel in my shoulder

Re: I almost became our worst enemy.

Bigsexy, You are a rookie on a 954 Please stop! sell the bike and get something smaller, There is no way to pull the front end off the ground with out knowing you are doing it. THROTTLE CONTROL go work on that and then you can get back on a bike!

2nd in a parking lot way to fast you should never have shifted out of 1st I know my 954 will do well over 60 in 1st gear I think that is plenty fast for a parking lot.

this was over a year ago now i am more experienced and used to my bike now. its not like i had the thing 12 O'Clock it was only an inch or two if that. the reason i shifted is because i usually would shift Early back then kinda hated hearing the revving of the bike wen it sounds like u need to change gears there was some slip on on it wen i got it that was ridiculously loud so just to answer Ur ? n now i know how much gas n the throttle response of my bike now.

Thats good Bigsexy but the speed limit in the parking lots in Sacramento is only 15 MPH thats like maybe 2000 rpm if that, so my point still stands you were going to fast anyway, I just think this world is 2 sue happy and even though it sounds like she was in the wrong with her move I also think you were!

But I am glad to hear you are still riding and have better throttle control every to a bike and car get into a crash we all ways get blamed thats something I just deal with most drivers do not want us on the roads just like we wish they were not on the roads.

PS get so health INS must have it if you are ridding.

Re: I almost became our worst enemy.

i did have sum but not to cover all my expenes. i know i was going a lil faster than i shouldve been (rookie mistake) but theres no xcuse for driving on the wrong side of the road. not saying speeding is excusable but the fact that she didnt try to help me and lied about the whole situation is y im upset. she told the cops that i had the bike up in the air like 3 or 4 feet high and then lost control and skidded and jumped rite at her car. bullcrap owell its in the past and ive learned from it im still alive n able to teach my newbie rider friends what not to do n give hints from my experiences and from what ive been told and showed by others. i didnt really have anybody to help me . my friends are already at a greater riding level than i was bcuz of my riding friends and myself helping them out just like this site does

Re: I almost became our worst enemy.

In wisconsin and most other states i believe, Parking lots are private property, any speed limit sign, stop sign, etc. are all optional. Which means that when the cops show up, it's a 50/50 split at who is at fault. Still doesn't mean that you should act like an idiot though. Everyone knows how dangerous parking lots are, instead of pulling wheelies you should have been keeping an eye out for soccer moms on cell phones with screaming kids in the back.
