Mice found in Honda VFR800 airbox

According to the nursery rhyme “I saw a mouse,” the rodent lived in a windmill in old Amsterdam, but in the case of this Honda VFR800 it looks more like the mouse was living in the airbox of the motorcycle.

Owner Mike Roughton was unaware his motorcycle had been turned into a larder for mice in the shed where he stored the Honda motorcycle over the winter, until he dropped the bike off at Full Throttle Motorcycles in Weymouth for a service and MoT.

Ali and Lloyd Bethell, who own the garage, said they’ve never seen anything like it. “I took the bike for a run and it was lumpy and a bit sluggish (I'm not surprised!!!),” Ali told MCN.The food store was revealed when a peanut fell out while Lloyd was lifting the petrol tank. “I thought it was a washer at first. As it turns out, it was a food store.”

Unfortunately the mouse wasn’t just eating its nuts, having also had a nibble at the plastic covers protecting wires, and taking a 4-inch chunk out of the cold-start vacuum tube.

Lloyd said he was just finishing the service in time for the weekend, and that he wouldn’t be charging Roughton for environmental disposal of the nuts

I knew someone that had a mouse living in the exhaust pipe. he didn't know it until spring and he fired it up and out came the mouse. He wents a good distance as he gave ot some throttle to help get the bike going. This was a number of years ago and was around the time of a similar commercial on TV.

Re: Mice found in Honda VFR800 airbox

Somebody I work with had a wood rat living in her car. The darn thing would occasionally run around in the parking lot at work, but somehow always managed to get back in the car before the she left to go home. This went on for a couple of months before she finally located the "nest" in a a very inaccessable space. Fortunately no damage was done, other than to extricate the rodent's nest from it's mobile home.

Hey, is there an explanation here on how to post photos? I have just gotten a 1974 Honda CB200 restored to the point that I'm going to ride it. 30 years in a barn, and it doesn't look any older than the 4200 miles it has on it, other than the dust. I finally got new tires, so my next project is to dismantle the rear end down to the swing arm assembly, and clean off all the dust there. Then it will be "close" to show quality, and I'd like to post photos of it. On the other hand, there are rust holes in the underside of the mufflers, and living in the coastal Oregon climate, are vulnerable to more corrosion soon if I ride it to work. So, is there a standard method of patching these holes? Like I said, they are on the underside, so patches will not be very visible. Somewhere down the road, I'd like to find new mufflers, but I'd rather keep it original if possible. So far the only things that I had to replace were carb kits, fuel lines, and the petcock bolt, as it was so badly frozen up that I had to drill it out and tap the bolt hole in the tank. I did the Kreem tank liner process as well.

Pardon my rambling. If you would like to e-mail me with a response, you can at: kupillas@charter.net

I'll try to keep up on this forum as well though. I feel a bit out of place as I'm from Oregon, and most if not all of you fine folk are from the UK....OK, I did see someones response from back east somewhere.

Click on the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the page, then click on the "Manage Attachments" on the next page. From there "Browse" to the pics on your computer and click "Upload".
