Credit card charges at the gas pump

I just watched a news clip on ABC about gas stations charging extra for gas on credit cards. I guess you insert the credit card an when accepted the price per gallon increases. Some as much as fifty cents per gallon. Legally they don't have to inform you of this so there isn't anything written about it on the pump. I use a credit card for fuel all the time, I don't even have to get off the bike. This is the first I have heard of this but then again I live in the sticks.(MT) I just thought I would post this in case anyone else isn't aware of this.

So it's gas stations doing it to cover merchant fees? And make some serious profit on top! When you think about it their margins must be getting a real hammering as volumes start to decrease.

Yeah, this happened to me in L.A. I swiped my card and as I fueled, I glanced over at the price per gallon display. Surprise, .15 more than advertised. I looked around, and sure enough they had a very small sign way over in the far corner indicating the different credit card prices. But whenever this happens, they always have some sort of small sign somewhere. I always look for those signs...
