| Ever Seen A Yahama... Or Any Bike Do This!? While riding two nights ago with a pack of probably 10 bikes or so, doing the every night thing, hitting the turns, hanging out, etc... I saw one of the craziest, wilds things I've ever personally seen dealing with bikes.
Here in Joplin, MO... we have a meeting spot in town where all the bikes from the area meet up, then we go from there to whereever we feel the need to go. Well, two kids from a neighboring town came in, both on newer R6's. Well, we took off for a ride, I lead the way. After hitting a curvy section of town, a handful of us get to the end to wait on the rest of the bikes... and wait... and wait. I knew some of the riders that were missing and knew they weren't that slow so a few of us panic'ed and U-Turned to see what has happened.
I go a 1/4 mile up the road and see this on the side of the road... it was one of the out of town guys on a nice new blue R6. Took a turn too hot, went off road, and the second the bike hit the pavement it erupted. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/IMG_0169.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/IMG_0171.jpg http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...o/IMG_0172.jpg

The rider turned out reasonably well for the situation. When I came up the road and saw the flames, I instantly thought someone may be dead. The kid rolled off the bike, through some tall grass beyond the bike, then came to his feet before the other guys sat him back down. He had some road rash, and a broken collarbone(I don't know of any more damage), he refused an ambulance ride and rode with his parents to the hospital.
After the fire department came out and put it out, we loaded up the bike and took it to his parents. I wish I got some 'after' pics, but once it was all said and done... the bike was literally a glob of melted metal, it melted the front forks/triple tree from the frame. The subframe, engine, all of that was completely melted. |

Its a shame to hear about that, must have been gut wrenching to see your baby go up in flames.

| Re: Ever Seen A Yahama... Or Any Bike Do This!? I have heard of a bike going up in flames.. When I was in my early 20's a very dear friend of ours had an old Brit bike and one day, as he was riding from one town to another, somehow the fuel somewhere caught light and the tank exploded in his face, killing him..
He didn't hit anything, he was just riding along and as far as I can remember they couldn't figure out why it went up like it did..
20 years on, I still think about him and wonder what he would be like now if he was still alive.. |

| Re: Ever Seen A Yahama... Or Any Bike Do This!? By the time I finally got back in contact with the kid, the bike had already been sent to the junk pile.
As for his damage, official report was road rash and that broken collarbone. The worse part was sitting there right after the accident as the EMT's attempted to clean out some of the debris from his road rash. I knew it had to hurt, and the kids yelling and screaming as they tried to get some of it while the wound was fresh didn't ease my stomach. |
