Can you post a pic of this number?
Maybe somebody engraved a personal anti-theft code on it - phone number maybe?

Re: engine number

sometimes when a dealer has done recall work to the bike they stamp under the numbers on the headstock and engine, normally with a punch mark, this is to confirm the recall work has been done, i think your model blade had a couple of recalls, one for new clocks, and i cant remember the other one. but if you are saying it has numbers scratched on to it, i dont think it would have nothing to do with what i mentioned above, post up a picture.

Re: engine number

should all be ok then, i do remember a few years back one of my old fireblades, what i bought new, had yellow numbers and letters hand written on the back of the cylinder head, so what the dealer is saying would make sense. If you want to post up pictures use a host like photobucket etc, then just copy and paste the link.

Re: engine number

Looks a bit like a birthdate - 12/20/44 - how old was the previous owner?
I have a mate with an '04 so I'll try to remember to have a look at his.

Re: engine number

hi
ive been to a dealer today to look at some hondas.they all have scratched numbers on them.i was told the engine builder does it to make sure top and bottom bits dont get mixed up with others so are a perfect match.seems a funny way to do it marking new cases like that, but my minds at rest now.
thanks guys
