can i test a stator that is out of the engine?

Hi guys, I just got a 1980 cx500d and it won't fire the bat. is ok is there a way to test the stator when its out of the bike ?
thanks guys, for any help would love to be on the road instead of on the bench

Yes, do the continuity tests detailed in the manual.

I don't have a CX500 manual but I would assume it would be in the electrical or charging system section under alternator?

However, I just had a look at the fiche and it is listed as a generator rather than an alternator? I also don't see a reference to a rectifier so is it possible it's a generator?
If it is, I'll have to have a look at my GSXR manual to see how to check it.
