| Tire suggestions... ... For touring on the 'Bird.
I've been using 010's, the price is right but I haven't been able to put more than 3000 miles on a rear (the front usually follows within another 1000 or so). I don't really think I'm being too hard on the tires other than the fact that the Givi's are full when I tour. The other factor that comes into play may be road surface. All of my touring, so far, has been based off the Blue Ridge Parkway. I will take side trips off the BRP but always find my way back. Many of you who have "done" the Parkway know that many parts of the road consist of a rough surface (lots of curves too ).
Here's my problem... If I leave Atl with a new set of 010's mounted, by the time I reach Front Royal, Va., my rear tire wear limits the amount of touring I can do on the way home. |

| Re: Tire suggestions... I'm on my third set of the Avon 45/46 combo. Two sets on 954s, current set on the FJR. The FJR set has over 5000 miles on it, and doesn't look even half worn.
I got 10,000 miles out of the stock 020 FJR rubber, but by that time it was cupping/squaring badly. |

| Re: Tire suggestions... I kinda went in a different direction here . I do appreciate everyone's suggestions but... I saw Motorcyclist's write up on the new Conti Road Attack , liked what they had to say and ordered a set Saturday at my stealer. I haven't been on Continentals since the early 80's. I'll post up as to what I think after a few miles. |

Guess what. The Avons run really well even when they have a gaping hole in them, so big in fact that it took FOUR (doubled, so eight strands) plugs, and a fix-a-flat to get them to hold air
Yeah, I should take a pic of that roadside repair. I don't even know the road (9, mebbe?), but it had lots of high speed sweepers, and immaculate (well, almost, something definitely bit into my 46) pavement. To get there, we crossed a bridge, ending in a T intersection, with a small restaurant on the right. Taking a left led onto this road |

Man... That hole sounds huge, that stinks. I assume you made it home ok, roadside tire repair sucks. |

It was (is) a big hole. It looked grim for a while. Sunday, middle of nowhere, bike wouldn't roll safely at more than 5mph (that was scary/squirmy enough), no cell service, no idea where to find a tow truck, etc etc etc. I have to give it up for my friend DK who went about 30 miles out and then back to get me the patch kit, then patched the tire for me. Still can't believe it held... I'll post a pic up sometime today. |

| Re: Tire suggestions... OK, here it is. Keep in mind it's a 180/55/17 tire you're looking at:
EDIT: oh, and if you're wondering, the tire has ~6500 miles of wear on it, clearly with plenty of tread still left
