03 CBR1100xx Problem

I have a 2003 CBR1100xx which I just purchased about a month ago. When I purchased the bike, the battery was bad. I replaced the battery and am having a problem with the bike not changing the battery. The bike will work for a couple of days and then I will try to start it and the battery will be dead. I purchased an OEM battery from the Honda dealer. When the bike is running, it changes arround 12.5-12.9 volts when the battery is fully changed. The other night, I went throught the service manual and went through the troubleshooting flow chart, and did the resistance test on the stator and it is within specs about .3 OHMS. and I checked the connectors on the rectifier/regulator and they check out fine. Durring my test I (of course) had to disconnect the RR, when I connected the RR backup I again checked the charging voltage and it was from 13 volts to 14.4 volts as I reved the engine. I rode the bike for a day or so and decided to check the battery voltage, noticed it was about 12.4 volts, checked the charging voltage and it was back to 12.6 volts, so I am not sure if it is the stator or the RR that is bad. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

I think it sounds like the reg/rect. Have you checked all fuses, etc?
Have you checked prices on the RR?

Re: 03 CBR1100xx Problem

Makes it a bit of a commitment at that price. My son's Triumph had similar issues, turned out to be the RR.
Have you checked ebay?

yes, ebay has a used one for $100. Think it might be better to spend the extra $33.

It is possible to get some good advice on here!
Hope you enjoy the Blackbird! I had a 2000 and really liked it. In fact, I may get it back .

Where are you parking the bike after you ride it? If its on a concrete slab - you need to get yourself some rubber mats underneath or some stands and get the wheels off the concrete. I had a similar problem and thats what worked for me-

wtf? How does parking on concrete and a bad regulator have anything in common?

I got the exact same problem on my '03 xx.
I took the bike to Honda service and they said there is no probs what so ever.
How did you manage to solve the problem.
Did you change the RR ?? or was it the fuses???

cheers.

Re: 03 CBR1100xx Problem

I think I read else where recently - since I am thinking about buying a CB1000, that the 2003 model had a generator coli overheating problem, which you might like to investigate further. I have tried to re find the page unsucessfully, but chances are it could have been within this forum.

Re: 03 CBR1100xx Problem

The 1996 (I think) Yamaha R1 R/R is a direct plug in for the blackbird. I did that on my 99 when the R/R went out. Paid $26 bucks for it on ebay. search the CBR1100XX Owners Organization Portal site and you'll find the right model year and how to guides.
