When the Busa first came out it was the fastest production bike.. But since then just about every 1000 is faster and quicker.. The 07 busa puts 156 rwhp and its alot heaver than the 1000's but the new busa puts 170ish to the rear wheel so it might gain some ground back on everyone else.. Its a great touring bike with tons on power and top end.. I just read a test on the new busa and its pretty impressive... The redesigned motor is a monster plus its putting down 20 more hp to the ground... |

That's one thing that pisses me off about the 400rr. Your arse does get used to it, mainly b/c its got no choice but it's not the most comfortable bike in the world. |

| Re: why XX and not Busa or ZX12R?? the new busa still was turning 1/4times in the high 9's so it still probally isn't quicker than any of the 1000's and it still can't hang in the corners either. But if you want a all around bad ass machine that you can ride and tour all day then its probally the bike of choice or the zx14.. With the right rider it will probally match the 1000's in the 1/4mile.. 170ish to the ground is impressive but its still 100lbs heavier..

| Re: why XX and not Busa or ZX12R?? yes that sounds perfect. i bet i could still keep up with my friends through the twisties with that extra 100 pounds. and i understand it's not really faster in the quarter than a 1k. but an all round bad ass machine that you can ride and tour all day on. |

Yeah your right, and who knows maybe it will keep up with the 1k's I know the previous busa's couldn't, they where putting 150ish to the ground and where alot heavier, but this new busa is lighter, quicker, and way more powerful.. I never thought I would like a suzuki this much, and I did own a 02 busa for alittle while.. This new busa seems like a awsome bike.. To bad honda doesn't get back in this class of bikes anymore.. I would love to see a new bad ass blackbird.. |

I have had an XX since 99 and am still loving it. it is I think the best commuter bike in existence I love the way honda designed the mirrors to fold in so you can get through smaller gaps than a scooter even some pushbikes. The only problem I have is when the backwheel locks up on downshifts to 1st gear going into corners on the way to work.
Otherwise who could want for more than 0 to 60 in less than 3 seconds. If you cant beat it, keep it? |

Going from Carb to FI, other than that the dash went to LCD in 2003.. Now compared to alot of bikes it underpowered and heavy.. I think it puts out 154hp@ the crank, which would put it in the 130's as far as RWHP. That's pretty low compared to most other liter bikes and ZX14's and 08Busa's. Most people just want Honda to come out with a sport tourer that's got some power and comfort. Just like the blackbird did in 1996.. That was the whole Idea, and now everybody has passed it by.. I would get a "new" blackbird in a sec if honda just would redesign it..
The name is from the SR-71 so it needs a power injection and a diet plan.. 136.9Rwhp and 83.7ft pounds of torque at 547lbs wet just isn't that impressive anymore, but the ride is great..

| Re: why XX and not Busa or ZX12R?? Hi Maholli,
I have a 96 carbed blackbird that put out 139 before I fitted the ignition advancer with 6degrees advance set. Oh and this is my third carb model couldnt afford the injection one and now I woudnt want one. I have a spare engine which I have been thinking about reboring but havnt got the motivation to do it yet.
I am planning to check the valve clearances on this one at 100,000miles or if it gets noisy. its on 70,000 ish now. I am just getting used to the weight and I would like to improve the brakes now but am not sure it needs it as both wheels will lock up. |

| Re: why XX and not Busa or ZX12R?? Hi paddy and ... Like I said before I love the blackbird I just wish honda with put out a new and improved version.. I have heard the carb ones run stronger.. I really would like to have a all around sport tourer and I almost bought a blackbird.. It just puzzles me why honda hasn't put a newer more updated version, 10-12 years on anything is old.. Like I said other than the LCD dash, its a 9 year old design.. Really more like 12 since all they really did in 99 was go to FI and a few other tweaks.. I love driving the XX and alot of the Honda loyalist would love to have an updated version.. Enjoy your ride and its nice to have ya..
Here where the changes in 1999.. - PGM FI fuel injection system is introduced.
- Ram-air system is introduced. It provides engine with more air at high speeds (above 200 km/h) utilizing aerodynamic pressure, thus raising power output to a claimed 164 HP at 9500RPM (at the crank).
- Revised Linked brakes with altered proportioning between front and rear.
- Fuel tank capacity increased from 22 to 24 litres.
- The choke lever is removed from the left side switch assembly, as it is no longer necessary
- To accommodate the ram air tubes, the oil cooler becomes shorter and wider.
- The inner and outer fork bushings are wider, changing the fork lowers and sliders.
- The "S"idestand warning light on the instrument cluster becomes the FI warning light,
- The wide part of the front axle (left side) becomes 10mm longer, which makes the left front axle space 10mm shorter.
- The two bulbs in the taillight are vertically aligned, in previous years they were side by side.
- Front wheel hub is enlarged, the brake rotors are changed.
- The ignition switch is changed. The 99+ keys are longer.
- The rotor carriers, stator cover and clutch cover are a light titanium color.
- The number of clutch plates are reduced from nine to seven.
- The rear inner fender changes shape to accommodate additional electronics.

| Re: why XX and not Busa or ZX12R?? I had a 99 Bird Maholli and didn't know about some of those changes Wow!
It was an awesome machine but heavy. Needed updates like inverted forks, radial mount calipers and power but never got it. It also had a long reach and I'm no shorty. Fixed that with GenMar risers. I have to think Honda must have something in the cards for an open classer. I don't think I'd consider one now with all the new bikes out there. The styling has now become dated although it did age well for a 10 year old bike. |

| Re: why XX and not Busa or ZX12R?? I like the looks of the new Busa, I hate that they still use an analog speedo. But everything else has me wanting one to build to drag race.
The main reason it has stayed king is that the aftermarket world tailors to it with every performance part you can dream of to make it go faster in a straight line. And there are alot of people out there to whom that is all they are interested in.

| Re: why XX and not Busa or ZX12R?? hi all, your best bet is to have a test ride on all the bikes in your price range then go for the one you like the feel of the most.
my own present bike is a 1986 yamaha fj1200 1tx with 16 inch front and rear wheels, it has had the air box removed and individual cone filters put on and a remus 4-1 exhaust, other than this it is totaly standard and it weighs over 300 kg with the givi lugage system, top box and a full tank of fuel. it pushed about 125 bhp at the crank when new so with the airbox mods and age it is probably about 105 - 115 bhp at the crank, and yet i can still keep a 2004 suzuki gsxr750 srad in my mirrors and he strugled to keep up with me. roads where 2 lanes wide, 300 - 1500 meters long with roundabouts for a total distance of about 1 - 2 miles.
this just goes to show it all depends on the way the power is delivered in the mid range on the roads that count.
yes i can understand the apeal of the xx as this will be my next bike, the busa is just too ugly and i am not buying a bike for it's motor but for the whole package. the zzr1400 is a good looking bike but out of my price range and come on everyone, lets face it. where can us mortals use all the power of any of these bikes without getting hurt or prosicuted.
my best advise can only be:- do what you want the way you want and be yourself not a sheep, after all we are all individuals. |

| Re: why XX and not Busa or ZX12R?? Ive ridden the zx14 and can confirm that its a land missile and i have friends that have older busas and they are monsters also. in my opinion unless you are a six footer the 14 is more comfortable because the reach to the bars is shorter, it handles excellent, and is good on long rides. |
