Input on possible '98 XX purchase???

Have always loved the the Blackbird and thought one would be a nice addition to my stable, (it happens to be a somewhat modern bike, I can fit on).

Walked in the dealer today and there is an adult owned '98 with 8600 miles, bone stock. It lightly fell, right after it was traded in, (I had a hard time seeing the damage), and since I bought a Wing from them a couple of years back and it being November, the sales dude said $3500, (it has $4500 on the tag).

I always thought a FI model would be a little nicer to have, (I'm spoiled with the Wing), but what do you guys think???? Any drawbacks/problems with the '98 carb model or should I really hold out for a super deal on a FI?

Thanks in advance and ride safe!!

Big Dave

forget the 98 go for the 99 fi this was the best of the bunch unrestricted 164 ponies, no cat convertor or other power draining rubbish. Just fire it up and hang on. Comfortable too, you won't need the wing anymore

Re: Input on possible '98 XX purchase???

I was really leaning towards the FI model to begin with. Thanks for the tip on the '99, I'll keep my eyes peeled in the off season.

I went back over to the dealer on Saturday to take a closer look at her. I had them roll her out of the line of bikes she was in and into some better light. I could hardly see the damage from her going over lightly, but as I looked more closely at her I thought that paint showed more age than I would expect for a bike with 8,600 miles. Upon closer inspection of the gauges it seems it has 86,000 miles on her!!!

Not happenin'!!!

As far as a Blackbird driving my Wing out of the Cave, (i.e. the garage), that ain't happeing either. First, the Wing was bought for my wife to enjoy the riding experience with me. Secondly, at 6'6" and 300+ I'm quite sure I am not going to find the XX more comfy than the Wing. Third, I have a complete TRAXXION suspension installed on the Wing and I can run with the big dogs in the twisties. Heck, my buddy has a hard time keeping up with me on his Speed Triple.

I'm sure there's a little bit of a power difference, though!

Whatever pushes your buttons as long as it has 2 wheels and preferably Honda. Enjoy!

Ditto that. I wouldn't give up my 99. This is one great bike!
