2003 Blackbird; what octane is required

Hi Friends,
I bought a 2003 model Blackbird(I also have a '97) and I'm assuming that with fuel injection, it requires a higher octane gasoline. The '97 only uses 87 octane. What is the recomended grade of gasoline for this bike? Also when starting it especially in cold weather; should I give it any throttle? Any other advice on how this model differs from the '97 would be very welcome. Thank you...

If it is FI or carb'd, the means nothing in regards to octane rating. What does you car take; it is FI isn't it? You can safely use 87 octane in it. I have found that the higher octane does make the motor produce less vibration though.

higher compresion ratio engines, like most if not all motorcycles, will run off any octain gas, but you want to keep the motor from spark knocking, higher octane gas is just that, has more octane to reduce this by preventing the fuel from combusting under higher cyclinder pressure....

The compression ratio is just one of many factors that dictate what octane fuel you should be running.
