| More quick CBR1100XX questions (drain tank, coolant leak)... I am searching at the same time, so if noone wants to answer these, I will understand:
1. I have to change the fuel pressure reg., it seems the tank needs to come off, unfortunately it was full.
I am siphoning with a tiny hose, but it's taking forever. Any suggestions?
2. My motorcycle has had a coolant leak almost since the beginning, see picture. I already had the housing off once, resealed it with "ultra black" but it is still dripping.
Any suggestions how to seal that puppy?
Thanks,

| Re: More quick CBR1100XX questions (drain tank, coolant leak)... Ok chipsnduke. As I recall, because I used to have one, the fuel tank can be propped up from the front after you remove the rear bolt on the tank. You will have to remove most of the fuel because it'll leak out the tank vent. Just siphon it like you said. That should allow access to the FPR.
The coolant leak will have to be inspected closer to determine exactly where it's coming from. It can be tricky as the drip will always occur at the lowest point but may be coming further up. Clean and dry good and with a good light and a mirror watch as the drip forms. You may have a crack in the pump housing cover. How about the O ring seal. Try a little sealer on that. There is also a small hole in behind the pump that will leak coolant if the seal behind the impeller fails. Check that too. Hope this helps. |

| Re: More quick CBR1100XX questions (drain tank, coolant leak)... denzee, thank you for your patience.
All these things kind of came together as I began to take her (it) apart to deal with the fuel reg..
I will take your advice and try to localize the coolant leak problem, could be water pump ($150 ), so will look into that, also sealing a little better...
Thanks for sticking with me, will let y'all know how it comes out!

I would take a look around there and in the equivalent place on the cover, too. Some small amount of sealant in those areas might make a difference. |

As soon as that is done, I'll fill 'er up with coolant and run 'er without the lower fairing for a while to see if I could localize the leak.
I hope it's not WP ($150!), the bike is nearly new (2002-4,000 miles) but sat for most of it's 7 years, maybe trashed the WP seals from unuse ???
The coolant in the 2nd pic. is actually the orig. coolant drained after 5 years, looked shiny new...
Thanks,

| Re: More quick CBR1100XX questions (drain tank, coolant leak)... I was able to start the bike today, so I checked for coolant leaks when it warmed up, nothing.
I found what appears to be a coolant stain under the weep hole on the water pump, and did the best I could to take a picture. Is it possible that the water pump only leaks after the motorcycle has sat for a while ?

PS The text on the picture is miniscule, on the left is the weep hole, on the right is where there appeared to be a coolant stain |

| Re: More quick CBR1100XX questions (drain tank, coolant leak)... I drained the coolant today and took the water pump off.
The sealing surfaces are fine (IMHO), the o-ring/seal was fine, the bolt that had the coolant drip did not pass through coolant, so...
Conclusion:
The water pump has to be bad, there's no other place the coolant could have come from. I am going to order a new water pump and seals, hopefully that will solve the problem.
Question:
I loosened the clutch slave cylinder to get the water pump off, do I need to reseal it with a new gasket, or can I just tighten it back up ? What do you guys do ?
Thanks!
