| cross post from CBR600. The F4i went pop, clunk, wheeze Well, now.
My wife, SheWhoMustBeObeyed (SWMBO), was riding along this evening and her F4i made a backfire-like noise and lurched a bit and then sounded like a twin. She immediately shut it off. I wasn't there, but some friends happenned along. They turned it over and said it sounded like some of the cylinders fired normally then made a "clunk, wheeze" sound. So shut it off after a second or two and it's waiting to be towed to the "authorized Honda service center" for work. There are no vital fluids leaking.
She has an extended warranty so it'll be interesting to see Honda find all sorts of reasons to deny the claim.
Firstly I do all the maintenance on the bike. I've kept a contemporaneous list of what was done at what mileage. Basically it's been oil changes every 2 to 3 thousand miles. Oil used is Honda GN4 and HP4. Valves were checked at 16K by me and were within spec. The 32K valve check and subsequent adjustment were done by a local stealer. That's about it.
Any advice regarding placing a claim on the extended warranty?
The contract indicates work must be done by an "authorized Honda service center," which I assume means dealer.
TIA!

| Re: cross post from CBR600. The F4i went pop, clunk, wheeze Have u got the log book with all the required stamps at each service interval? They will look at this to determine if u have actually ben taking the bike in for the requied service at the required milage. If u havent then i dont think they will accept the claim unfortunatley mate |

I've done all the mtnce except the first oil change and the 32K valve adjustment. This is ok per the contract. |

BW | I think what normally happens is the spark plug gets loose from improper torque and when it works itself loose enough from vibration, compression ends up blowing it out and fudging up the threads in the process. |

| Re: cross post from CBR600. The F4i went pop, clunk, wheeze well, what happened was the plug broke below the nut so the head has to come off for removal.
Sounds like it'll be expensive.
Since stealer installed the plug 4K miles ago that they'll be on it for the replacement.
