| Christmas in July! Well after nagging my wife for over a month about getting a new 600RR, she finally gave in, but with quite a suprise. After asking her @ 5am this morning if I could buy a 600RR and getting an affirmative 'NO', I called her @ lunch time and asked again. Of course I got another 'NO', with the explicative, "which part of NO did you not understand, the 'N' or the 'O'". Around 5pm I get a call from her telling me that she would go look at the bike, but made no commitment as to letting me buy the bike.
Called the dealership and they only had 1 left and told me to hurry and get down if I wanted it. The wife and I arrived at the dealership and saw the 600RR sitting in front and I knew it had been sold. Low and behold, the bike was sold to ME! Apparently my wife had decided to buy me a 600RR a month ago and finally bought me one today! SO KEWL!
I'm a proud new owner of a 2004 Blue 600RR! Have I mentioned, I have the coolest wife in the world! |

Yeah, it would seem that the whole trade thing has fallen through. A member of this forum had made initial contact with me. We traded some information, but haven't heard from that member. Oh well, I'm not upset or anything, just wished the member would of said something to me. Tis is life.
Unfortuantely, I can't keep both bikes. The wife only wants a one bike garage, so what the wife wants the wife gets.
So that basically answers the question if she's interested in riding, which is absolutely no. She doesn't even like riding passenger. Can't blame her, I wouldn't want to ride pillion on a sports bike either. Quote: |

You will have to give us an update on moving downstream (from a litre bike to the 600 class). I am curious as to whether there is a significant difference in enjoyment for street riding (may consider it as a future bike). |

Congrats on the new scoot, btw! | She actually decided a month ago to buy me the bike without saying anything to me. She just wanted to torture me for a while. She, my cousin and the dealership (I'm good friends with the owner) planned the whole suprise out. I actually gave the shortened version of the story. If you really want to know how everything transpired here it is, but get comfortable it's going to be a long read.
So about a month ago I asked my wife if I could sell my bike to get a 600RR and she said "NO" (I have to ask my wife these things because, well she's my wife and I actually went out and bought a 929 2 years ago without telling her. So she was and still is a bit peeved about that). But little did I know, she had decided to buy me the 600RR without telling me. So after I did my first track day, the itch to get a 600RR become bigger and I nagged her about it every so often, with the same result. I then started on a endeavor to trade the 954 for a 600RR (I posted here and 600rr.net). I got some really good results, but one of them stood out for my wife. A guy from Savannah, GA wanted to trade and I told my wife this. She told me I was nuts and tried talking me out of even thinking about it. I was also looking at buying a 2001 F4i, but my cousin kept on trying to talk me out of it. Finally this past weekend, my cousin, my wife and I went to look at import scooters (Italian) for my cousin. Little did I know, the wife used this opportunity to start setting things up to buy my new bike with my cousin.
With the wheels in motion for my new bike and me not knowing what was going on. I again asked my wife Tuesday morning @ 5am if I could buy the 600RR, of course the answer was no. So I went to work as usual and got an IM from my cousin telling me try to talk my wife into letting me get a 600RR. Of course, he was in on the suprise, so basically he was just getting me to stir the $hit up with my wife. I told him I would ask one last time and then put it to rest. Come lunch time, I call the wife and ask her again with the same result of "NO". I then told her I was going to buy a used F4i for $4K, again she said "NO". I was a little pissed about that b/c I was spending less money. Of course I couldn't put 1 and 1 together to make sense of the situation b/c I was so peeved that I couldn't even buy a cheap used F4i!
So for the rest of the afternoon, I spent my time away from my desk doing the things I needed to do. Little did I know, both my wife and cousin were calling (desk phone, not allowed to have mobile/cell phones b/c of a government clearance rule) me up the ying yang. Reason for the phone calls is that there was only one 600RR left at the dealership and none could be had until next year. So they were trying to get me to go down to the dealership to buy and suprise me with the bike. So I come back to my desk around 5pm and I have an IM from my cousing telling me to call him "ASAP". I thought something bad happend to him. So I call him immediately and he tells me that he has a friend of a friend of a friend who is trading in his 600RR to the same dealership and I should get up there and meet his friend before he strikes a deal with the dealership. I'm quite reluctant to do so b/c my wife has said "NO" to both a new and used bike. Suddenly I get a call from my wife and she says that she's sorry and that she would at least go look at both the new and used bike, but made no promises about letting me buy it. So I told her that I would call the dealership to see if they had any new 600RR's left. I called and the dealership had 1 left, but was told that someone was looking at it and wanted to buy it. So if I wanted it, I would have hurry down immediately if I wanted to buy it. I called my wife back and told her this. I also told her that more than likely the bike would be sold by the time we got there. She insisted that we go down b/c she didn't want to hear it anymore from me (on the topic of a new or used 600cc bike).
So I pick her up from home and head over to the dealership. As we pull in, I see the new 600RR and it's sitting in a position like it's been sold (instead of being lined up with the other bikes, it was separated out). My heart bascially sunk to my stomach and told my wife that the new bike been sold (also didn't see the "supposed" used 600RR, which turns out to be a lie from my cousin to get me down to the dealership). We walk up to the bike and the bike had been tagged as sold to someone. My wife then says, "Oh well, maybe next year then". So she goes inside telling me that she's going to the bathroom. Little did I know, she was going inside to pay for the bike. So I stand outside sulking over the bike. I then go in and get her to go and look at other bikes, but have no appetite for other bikes b/c I really wanted a 600RR. As we were walking out to get in the car and leave. She says to me, "I wonder who they sold the bike to?". I say to her, "does it matter, it's sold and I can't buy it?". So she walks over to the bike looking at the tag to see who it's sold to. Then she asks the salesman (who's in on the suprise also), "who did you sell this bike to?". I then try to pull my wife away at the same time telling the salesman, "does it really matter, it's sold". Then the salesman says, "it's sold to you!" I then get this dumbfounded/confused look on my face looking at my wife. I'm thinking to myself, is there someone standing behind me that he's talking to. My wife then throws her arms around my neck and says, "Suprise! I bought you this bike!".
Boy was I happy and feeling pretty stupid. Everybody working at the dealership and their customers were looking at me. Man, definitely a "tear-jerker" moment, when the wife does something like this.
So that's the whole story...told you it would be long! |
