| Stepping down... I have been pondering the thought of stepping back down to a 600. I have owned 4 600 class bikes since 98 and currently have a 954. The 2 most recent were my 600RR and my ZX-6R and they were both great bikes. I got rid of them and got my 954. I went to the 954 to try something new and enjoyed it a lot. I'm not scared of the bike or anything I think I just want to take my riding in a different direction. I'd really like to start doing track days and maybe even racing. I know the biggest thing will be going from 144rwhp to 100 and it's gonna be wierd. My insurance now is much more them my 600's were and I have a master plan brewing in my mind that I need to save money for, so cheaper insurance will be a big help. I'm just a bit confused as to which 600 I may want. I have ridden the 600RR, ZX-6R, and the new 04 Gixxer6, I just have no idea which to get. The limiting factor of the 600RR is NO TRUNK SPACE, and the plastic tank cover. Two things about the 954 that I really like are my big ass trunk and being able to use my magnetic tank bag. Any thoughts?

| Re: Stepping down... I rode my friends 600rr this past weekend. Man that thing rides smooth! So much smoother than my 929. Even though it has a lack of power compared to mine, it was a blast to ride. Corners awesome! I would recommend this bike to anyone looking for a 600! |

I always ride with my hydration pack which has some storage and doesn't get in the way at all. I'm just not a big fan of the strap style tank bags which is why I never had one fo my 600RR.

I've never seen so many articles on a specific bike. The only drawback (IMO) are the ergos, which a Corbin would solve easily for street duty. I imagine the 600 class is a difficult decision, Yamaha's R6, Suz 600, Kaw 636, Honda 600RR. But then again, you probably can't go wrong with any of them. |

Choosing a 600 is the hardest and easiest choice there is. On one hand, you can't get a bad bike. On the other, they are all so close that it is hard to find one's benefits over the others.
My opinion is that they are all great. So identify the features of one that are most important to you ie trunk space, softer seat, looks, etc and go w/ that one b/c they all perform great.

| Re: Stepping down... Well I have a friend that is willing to trade staright for his 04 Gixxer6. I find it to be quite comfy, a little more so then the plank seat on my 954. The trunk is decent and it has a metal tank. I have always been a Suzuki basher but you just can't agrue the fact they make a great sportbike. I wish Honda made a 750 also.

Mojave, I'll keep you posted and let me know if you decide before me. When I had my 600RR I could stay close with my buddy on his 954. If these new 600's can still pull with a bigger bike there really is no sense in getting the extra cubes at all. The one thing I really like about the bigger bikes is you can keep it in the same gear almost all the time.

Looking at my 1000RR plastic tank cover/fairing/cowl I think I can stick some metal or magnetic strip/sheet to the underside of the pastic so that my magnetic tank bag has something to latch onto from the outside. |
