| Another Question about New Bikes I was pretty much decided on a CBR600F4i as a first street bike, but I read in a couple of places that now that the CBR600RR has come out the F4i doesn't have very good resale value and seems overpriced compared to the RR.
This leads me to my second question for you guys: What is it exactly that makes the RR a less beginner friendly bike? Is the engine different, or is it mostly the suspension and the riding position? Also, in your opinion is it true about the price and resale value of the F4i's?
Thanks in advance for your help.

| Re: Another Question about New Bikes Waaay too much power, period. After riding a 929 for 2 years I went "back" to a 600RR and it's still plenty powerful. If you're buying a first bike, buy an F3 or F4, something you won't mind tossing down the tarmac, because you will, sooner or later. |

| Re: Another Question about New Bikes The F4i is more upright and less racy in seating position (actually felt more comfortable than a Interceptor to me). Lighter than a RR although not necessarily lighter handling. It is actually a very nice bike and let no one fool you by calling it slow. As far as resale all sport bikes suck.
PS you will find it compared to a YZF600R and although the Honda is more it is a MUCH nicer bike in my opinion. Better build newer tech including Fuel Injection.

| Re: Another Question about New Bikes A friendy word of advise:
If you are considering the resale value as a means inwhich you decide what bike to get, just forget about buying a new bike. Buy used and you'll do O.K.
Just a little example
Bought 929 in April of 2000 for $11,400 (No flames please, I had to wait 4 months for it in the Bay Area because nobody had Red)
Micron Exhaust:$1100.00
PCIII and a couple of custom maps: $1000.00
Top Line Undertail: $400.00+
Fran Tubo Brake lines: $100.00
Marchesini Wheels: $2400.00
Scotts Steering dampner: $400.00
NWS rear fender: $200.00
Sato Rear sets: $500.00
Two sets of Sharkskinz (used): $1000.00
HRC 1/6th turn throttle: $250.00+
Plus a bunch of other stuff that I can't even remember.
Oh ya, suspension
Ohlins rear shock: $1000.00
Front forks by DK: $450.00
In perfict condition (which it is), it's worth about $5K.

| Re: Another Question about New Bikes The CBR600F4I has a more begginer friendly power band than the CBR600RR. The CBR600RR hits harder on the power. If you don't want to take a big hit on resale, then buy a one year old bike with low mileage. The first buyer always takes a big hit. Good luck. |

Yeah a friend of mine sent me that pic and I looked at it and just figured it was a normal pic then when I made it my avatar I realized he has a purse. I laughed my ass off.

If you plan on selling the bike ever its not worth putting on all crazy parts unless you keep all the stock parts so you can revert back to stock and sell all the aftermarket stuff seperatly. |

| Re: Another Question about New Bikes I would look around for a used, low mileage 03 600RR . A 600 is pretty "tame" until you get to around 6000 rpm,and even then, they only go as fast as you make them. As a new(er) rider I would hope that you would use your better judgement and keep it lower in the rpm range until you get a good feel for the bike.
Either bike(600rr or F4I) is a good bike, the 600RR will have a better resale, as well as a better parts availability(except maybe used body pannels) Another plus to buying the 600RR is that it has more power and a lot more potential that you can explore once you get to be more familliar with the bike I am not saying that the F4I doesnt have potential, I dont want to open that can of worms.
To be to the point, if you use your head and dont ride beyond your abilitys a 600RR should not be a problem.
Just my $.02 |
