Crankcase breather

I noticed that the crankcase breather runs into the airbox. Assuming the hot contaminated air is bad for the intake, wouldn't it be better if i re routed these elsewhere?

Re: Crankcase breather

to the org

It would be better if it did not enter the air intake, but for it to operate correctly it needs some sort of vacuum to help relieve pressure, ideally a vacuum pump would be great, but the bike starts to get heavier, also the manufacturers have to please the appropriate emissions, so it's a lot easier to dump it into the intake.

Re: Crankcase breather

Thanks for the welcome mate

Good to see a reply by a fellow aussie. I'm originally from Brisbane.

So you're saying that the crankcase actually needs to a vacuum to relieve pressure.. interesting. On my cbr250 its the same scenario.. so i just disconnected the breather and put a gauze element on it.

Thanks mate

Re: Crankcase breather

It runs to the airbox for emissions reasons, to burn the blowby and crankcase oil vapors. Also, its a handy way to keep the crank case vent clear of water when its raining. There is no problem removing it as long as you use some sort of small filter pod or gauze element to keep grit out of the crankcase.
